Alright, so I wanted to mess around with some NBA data, and I figured, why not start with one of the most dominant teams ever – the 2017 Golden State Warriors? So that’s how I started the topic Golden State 2017 Roster today.

First, I needed to find the actual roster. I just did a quick search with no-brainer words, and boom, the first few results had exactly what I was looking for, a clean list of players.
Digging into the Data
Once I had the list, I wanted to put it somewhere I could easily work with it. Nothing fancy. I created a simple text, copied, pasted, and saved. That gave me my base data to play with.
Figuring Out the “Why”
- Stephen Curry: Point Guard, the heart of the offense.
- Klay Thompson: Shooting Guard, Splash Brother number two.
- Kevin Durant: Small Forward, the scoring machine they added.
- Draymond Green: Power Forward, the defensive anchor and playmaker.
- Zaza Pachulia: Center, their starting big man at the time.
And the key bench guys:
- Andre Iguodala: Sixth Man, veteran presence and clutch performer.
- Shaun Livingston: Backup Point Guard, known for his mid-range game.
- JaVale McGeeSuper athletic, and bring lots energy.
I went through and basically recreated the roster, thinking about each player’s role. It’s one thing to see the names; it’s another to visualize how they fit together on the court.
After got a clear look, finally I understood why this team was so darn good. You had shooting, defense, playmaking, and a ton of experience, and the combination of them made a great roster. I can use it for further projects. Easy!
