Alright, so I’ve been messing around with my golf stance lately, specifically trying to figure out the best spot to put the ball. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, honestly. I started out just kinda winging it, not really paying much attention to where the ball was in relation to my feet. I was hitting the ball, but, you know, it wasn’t pretty. Some shots were okay, others were all over the place.

Then, I started doing a little digging online, reading what some of the pros do and what different websites recommended. It seemed like everyone had a slightly different take, but there were some common threads. One thing I saw was that for a practice swing, you want the club to hit the ground right in the middle of your stance. So, I started experimenting with that.
Practice Swing Experiments
I grabbed my 7-iron and started taking practice swings, focusing on where the club was bottoming out.
- First try, I had the ball pretty far back in my stance. I took a swing, and sure enough, the club hit the ground way behind where the ball would have been. Not good.
- Next, I moved the ball way up front, almost off my left heel (I’m a righty, by the way). This time, the club hit the ground way out in front. Still not right.
- Then, I put the ball just a bit forward of the center of my stance. I took another practice swing, and bam! The club brushed the grass right under where the ball was. That felt promising.
After that, I started hitting some balls with my mid-irons, keeping the ball just slightly forward of center. The shots felt a lot more solid, and I was hitting the ball straighter. I was actually getting some decent distance, too, which was a nice bonus.
Moving to Longer Irons
Feeling pretty good about my mid-iron success, I decided to try my longer irons. I’d read somewhere that for those, you want the ball a couple of inches inside your left heel. So, I grabbed my 4-iron and gave it a go.
- First few shots were a bit shaky. I was topping the ball a lot, which was frustrating.
- But, I kept at it, focusing on keeping my weight balanced and making a smooth swing.
- Eventually, I started making better contact. The ball was flying higher and farther than before. It wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely an improvement.
So, that’s where I’m at now. I’m still working on it, trying to get more consistent with all my clubs. It’s definitely a process, and there are good days and bad days. But I feel like I’m finally starting to get a handle on this whole ball position thing. It’s making a difference in my game, and that’s what matters, right?
