Okay, so today I tried something new, and it was, well, let’s just say a bit unexpected. I went golfing! Never been a huge golfer, more of a “hit the ball and hope for the best” kind of guy.
So, I started out at the driving range, just trying to get the feel of things. Swing after swing, I practiced, mostly hitting the ground or sending the ball off in crazy directions. I must say, it’s harder than it looks!
The “Incident”
After a while, I felt brave enough to actually go out on the course. First few holes, pretty standard. Lots of walking, a few decent shots, a lot of not so decent shots. Then, on the, I think it was the fifth hole, something crazy happened.
I took my swing, and it felt pretty good, actually. The ball soared through the air…and then I heard this “thwack” sound. And it wasn’t the sound of the ball landing on the green. Nope.
I looked up, and to my horror, I saw a bird fall out of the sky. I’d actually hit a bird with my golf ball! I felt terrible. Honestly, I was shocked.
- I immediately ran over to where it fell.
- Thankfully, it looked stunned, not dead.
- I carefully checked for broken wings, the whole nine yards.
After a few minutes, the bird seemed to recover, shook its little head, and flew away. I was so relieved! I’ve never felt so bad about a good shot in my life.
I finished the round, but I gotta say, my heart wasn’t really in it after that. I kept thinking about that poor bird. Let’s just say, I’ll be extra careful about my surroundings next time I hit the links. Maybe I’ll stick to the driving range for a while longer…
Definitely a day to remember, though not exactly in the way I expected!
