Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this Guatemala football team, you know, the one they call the national team. Folks ’round here, they love their football, just like we love a good corn harvest, only maybe a bit louder.

Guatemala National Football Team, eh? They ain’t exactly the top dogs, ya know. I heard tell they’re called the “Chapines,” which sounds kinda funny if ya ask me. Don’t know why they call ‘em that, but that’s what they say. They play this football, kickin’ a ball around, tryin’ to get it in that net thingy. Seems like a lot of runnin’ for just a few points, but what do I know, I’m just an old woman.
Now, these fellas, they ain’t never made it to that big World Cup thing. Heard it’s a real big deal, countries from all over the world playin’ each other. But our boys, they try hard, I reckon. They got close a few times, made it to the last round of tryin’ to get in, but no luck so far. They did win some other things, though. Back in ‘67, they won somethin’ called the CONCACAF Championship, and then in 2001, they won the UNCAF Nations Cup. Don’t ask me what all them letters mean, I ain’t got no education like them city folks.
- World Cup: Never qualified, but they keep tryin’. Bless their hearts.
- CONCACAF Championship: Won it once, way back in 1967. That was somethin’.
- UNCAF Nations Cup: Won that one too, in 2001. Good for them.
I heard someone talkin’ ‘bout this FIFA rankin’ thing. Says Guatemala is way down there, somewhere around 108 or 118, somethin’ like that. Means they ain’t as good as some other teams, I guess. But they still got some fellas that are pretty good, I hear. One fella, Aarn Herrera, they say he’s valuable. Guess he’s good at kickin’ that ball.
There’s this big group called FIFA, they run the whole show, I think. They got this fella, Messi, from Argentina. Plays good I heard. That Argentina team, they’re real good, number one in the world. Our boys got a long way to go, I tell ya. But they keep playin’, keep tryin’. That’s the spirit, right?
They got this other thing called the CONCACAF Nations League, where they play against teams from around here. I don’t know how they’re doin’ in that right now, gotta ask my grandson. He keeps up with all this stuff. He says there’s standings, like a list, showin’ who’s winnin’ and losin’. He tries to explain it to me, but it’s all just numbers and words I don’t understand.

Guatemala’s Football Team History. This football team, they been around a long time, since 1919 I heard. They got an office, somewhere in the city, on some street with numbers. Can’t remember the numbers, too many for my old brain. They got a president, someone in charge, and a coach, the fella who tells the players what to do.
So, the Guatemala national football team standings, they ain’t the best, but they ain’t the worst either. They’re somewhere in the middle, just like us ordinary folks. They play their hearts out, they try their best, and that’s all you can ask for, right? They got their wins and their losses, just like we got good years and bad years for the crops. It’s all part of life, I reckon. And who knows, maybe one day, they’ll surprise us all and make it to that World Cup thing. That would be somethin’ to see, wouldn’t it?
Now, this football, it’s a funny game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But as long as them boys are out there tryin’ their best, that’s all that matters. And us folks back home, we’ll keep cheerin’ ’em on, even if we don’t always understand what’s goin’ on. It’s the spirit of the game, they say. And that’s somethin’ we can all understand, even an old woman like me.
So, there ya have it. That’s what I know ‘bout the Guatemala national football team. Not much, maybe, but it’s honest. They play football, they try hard, and they represent Guatemala. And that’s good enough for me.
