Okay, so today I tried out this thing called the “Holland Arm Bar.” I saw it online and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I’m always up for trying new moves, even if I end up looking like a goofball in the process.
Getting Started
First, I watched a couple of videos to get a basic idea. I mean, you gotta have some clue what you’re doing, right? It looked… complicated, but not impossible. So, I cleared some space in my living room, moved the coffee table (important!), and put on some comfy clothes. I’m not about to attempt this in jeans.
The Actual Attempt
- Step one: Get a good grip. This seemed pretty straightforward. I grabbed my imaginary opponent’s arm like I was trying to win an arm-wrestling match.
- Step two: The twisty part. This is where things got interesting. I tried to follow the video, twisting my body and their arm in some weird pretzel-like configuration. I’m pretty sure I pulled a muscle somewhere in my back.
- Step three: The “bar” part. Supposed to use your other arm to kind of lock their arm in place. Yeah, I’m not sure I got that right. I felt like I was just hugging myself.
The Results (or Lack Thereof)
Honestly, it didn’t go great. I definitely didn’t magically submit my imaginary opponent. I mostly just felt awkward and a little bit sore. I think I need a real person to practice on, and maybe, you know, an actual instructor.
But hey, I tried! That’s gotta count for something, right? Maybe with some more practice (and a lot more flexibility), I’ll get the hang of it. For now, I’ll stick to moves I actually know. At least I did clear a space, it is very tidy now.
