Okay, here we go, let me tell you about messing around with a 2017 Honda.

My Adventures with a 2017 Honda
So, a buddy of mine picked up this 2017 Honda. Nothing fancy, just your regular run-of-the-mill car. But he wanted to add some stuff, some upgrades and asked if I’d be down to help. I figured, why not? I always like tinkering with cars, plus free beer was on the table.
First thing we tackled was the sound system. The stock one was… well, let’s just say it wasn’t blasting any eardrums.
Here’s what we did:
- Pulled out the old head unit. This was a bit of a pain, needed some plastic pry tools to avoid scratching the dash.
- Installed a new touchscreen head unit. Found a decent one online with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wiring was a bit confusing at first, but we eventually figured it out with a wiring diagram we found online.
- Upgraded the speakers. Replaced the front and rear speakers with some aftermarket ones. Noticed a huge difference in sound quality right away.
- Added a small subwoofer in the trunk. Just something to give it a little more bass. Ran the power cable from the battery, which was a bit of a hassle, but worth it in the end.
Next up was the lighting. My buddy wanted to swap out the halogen headlights for some LEDs. I was a little hesitant at first, but he was insistent.
What we did:

- Swapped out the headlight bulbs. Pretty straightforward, just unplugged the old ones and plugged in the new ones. Made sure they were properly aligned so we wouldn’t blind other drivers.
- Added some LED fog lights. This required a little more work, had to run some wires and mount the lights. But they looked pretty cool once they were installed.
After that, he wanted to mess with the suspension. I tried to talk him out of it, but he was set on lowering the car a bit. It was his car, so what could I do?
What happened:
- Installed lowering springs. This was the biggest pain of the whole project. We had to compress the springs to remove them, which is always a little nerve-wracking. The new springs lowered the car about an inch, which looked pretty good.
- Got an alignment. This is crucial after messing with the suspension. Took it to a local shop and had them dial it in.
Finally, he wanted to add a cold air intake. Said it would improve the performance. I’m not sure if it actually did anything, but it sounded cool.
Last steps:
- Installed the cold air intake. Pretty easy, just removed the stock airbox and installed the new intake. Made a little more noise, so my buddy was happy.
Overall, it was a fun project. Took us a couple of weekends to get everything done, but it was worth it. The car looks and sounds a lot better now. Plus, I got some free beer out of the deal. Can’t complain about that!
