Well, you see, this here NBA season, it’s a long one. They play a whole heap of games. I heard it’s like, 82 games. That’s a lot of running around for those fellas, ain’t it?

Now, they got these things, they call ’em regular season games. That’s the main part, I reckon. Each team, they play 82 of them games. It is a big number. They play some at their home place, and some at the other team’s place. They call it 41 home games and 41 away games. Makes sense, I guess.
They start playing these games around October, I think. And they keep going and going until about April. That’s a good chunk of the year, right there. Lordy, that’s a lot of basketball.
- 82 games, that’s a lot.
- They play half at home, half away.
- October to April, that’s a long time.
And they got these other games, too. I think some are called in-season something. I hear some of these count for the teams’ scores, some don’t. The last one doesn’t count, I guess. But those other ones do. It is a bit confusing.
And then they got the playoffs! That’s when things get real serious. They play even more games then. If they do good in the regular season, they get to play in the playoffs. I think they decide who’s the best in the playoffs.
They got divisions, too. Like, groups of teams. I don’t rightly know how many, but there’s a few. They play each other a bunch of times. It’s all a bit complicated, to be honest. I just like watching the ball go in the hoop.

Some folks, they want to make the season shorter. They say 82 games is too many. Maybe it is, maybe it ain’t. I don’t know. Those players, they sure do run a lot, though. They must be tired by the end of it all.
So, yeah, to answer your question, there’s 82 games in a normal NBA season. Unless they are doing good and get into the playoff, then there is more. But 82 is the main number, I’d say. That’s a whole lot of basketball, no matter how you slice it. They start playing when the leaves start falling off the trees, and they don’t stop until the flowers are blooming again.
They got these new games, called NBA Cup games, I heard. They count towards the regular games except the very last one. I don’t know why they do it, it is confusing for me. They got groups, like five teams in each group. And they play each other. It’s all too much for me to keep track of, to be honest. I just like watching the game.
Back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy games and things. We just played. These days, it’s all about the money, I reckon. Those players, they make a whole lot of money. More than anyone else, I hear. Good for them, I guess. They work hard for it, running up and down that court all the time.
Anyways, 82 games. That’s the number you’re looking for. That’s how many games they play in a regular NBA season. Unless they make it to them playoffs, then they play even more. But 82 is the big number. Remember that.

I remember they called those new games In-Season Tournament, now it is NBA Cup. It does not matter what they call them, it is still basketball. They start with some group play, then some other games, they call knockout. I do not know what that means.
- NBA Cup games count, except the last one.
- They play in groups first, then knockout rounds.
- They used to be called In-Season Tournament.
It does not matter how many games they play, I like to watch them. But 82 is a big number, that’s what I know. Hope that helps you, honey.
