I have been cleaning behind couches and curtains these days. It’s a mess out there.

I started by thinking about how often I should do this thing. I mean, it depends on how many people sit on the couch, right? And how many pets you got shedding all over the place. So, I decided to create a rough schedule to stick to.
Next, I tried to gather all my cleaning tools. No way I’m using a dozen different cleaning products. I got some basic stuff to tackle the dust and dirt.
I read somewhere that a weekly dusting is good for most homes. But, it also depends on the size of your place, whether you have pets, etc. So I figured, I’ll start with weekly and see how it goes.
- First, I moved the couch away from the wall. Man, it was dusty back there! I used a vacuum to suck up all the dust bunnies and whatever else was hiding back there.
- Then, I tackled the curtains. I took them down, and boy, were they dusty! I shook them outside first to get rid of the loose dust.
- I threw the curtains into the washing machine. Easy peasy.
- While the curtains were washing, I wiped down the window sills and the wall behind the couch.
- After the curtains were dry, I hung them back up.
- Finally, I pushed the couch back into place.
I decided to make this a regular thing, maybe every 1 to 3 months. It really made the living room feel fresher and cleaner. So, it’s just a rule of thumb that to keep my sofa in shape over time. And it keeps the whole place looking better in the long run.
