Okay, so last weekend I finally made it to the Tianyu Lights Festival in NYC. I’d been seeing ads for it everywhere, and honestly, I was a little skeptical, but figured, hey, why not?
First off, getting there was a bit of a mission. Took the subway, then had to grab a bus. Thought I was going the wrong way at one point, but eventually, I saw the glow in the distance. It’s out in Queens, so be prepared for a bit of a trek.
Alright, let’s talk about the lights themselves.
- The sheer scale of it is pretty impressive. They’ve got these massive structures made entirely of lights. Dragons, pandas, mythical creatures – you name it, they probably have it.
- Some of the displays were seriously cool. The attention to detail was wild. You could tell someone put a lot of time into designing them.
- They had some food vendors there, too. Standard festival fare – overpriced hot dogs, cotton candy, that kind of thing. But hey, gotta eat, right?
The whole thing felt very… Instagrammable, if that makes sense. Lots of people posing for photos, trying to get that perfect shot. I even joined in for a couple, I admit.
It’s definitely a family-friendly kinda event. Saw tons of kids running around, totally mesmerized by the lights. Makes sense, it’s visually stunning.
A few things I wish I’d known beforehand:
- It gets crowded. Like, really crowded. Go early if you can. I went on a Saturday night, which was probably my first mistake.
- Dress warm. It was chilly, even though it’s technically “spring.” Layer up.
- Bring cash. Some vendors didn’t take cards.
All in all, was it worth the trip? Yeah, I think so. It’s a fun experience, especially if you’re looking for something a little different to do in the city. Would I go again? Maybe not next year, but definitely worth checking out once.
So yeah, that was my Tianyu Lights Festival adventure. Hope that helps if you’re thinking about going. Later!
