My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I seen him good enough. He’s got a punch on him, that James. Knocks ’em right out, sometimes. Other times, well, he gets knocked around a bit himself. He’s from, where is it now? Australia. That’s a long way from here, ain’t it? Across the big water. They got them kangaroos over there, hoppin’ around. Wonder if James has ever seen one of them? Probably has. They are tough guys over there in Australia. He must be tough if he got through all that over there.
This James McSweeney, he’s got a name, too. They call him “The Hammer.” Suits him, I reckon. He hits like a hammer, that’s for sure. I wouldn’t want to be on the wrong end of one of his punches, no sir. He’s a heavyweight MMA fighter, that’s what the young folks say. Sounds fancy, don’t it? He’s got, what do they call it? Fight history, I think. It’s like those history books, but about fights. He fights and then they write it down. So he is like a history book in the making. All them fights he’s had, all them fellas he’s fought. It’s all part of his history now. Just like my old family photos, that’s part of my history, ain’t it?
Now, I don’t know what he’s doin’ these days. Ain’t seen him on the picture box in a while. Maybe he’s takin’ a rest. Even fighters need a rest sometimes. Just like me, I need to rest my old bones. Or maybe he’s trainin’ for another fight. Gettin’ ready to go again. Gotta be in good shape to be a heavyweight MMA fighter.
