Okay, so, today I wanted to share my little journey diving into the whole “Jamie Vance” thing. I had heard the name buzzing around – you know, linked to that book, “Hillbilly Elegy.” It was a big deal back in 2016, apparently a bestseller. I’m not gonna lie, the whole “bestseller” tag is what really got me curious. I thought, “What’s the big fuss about?”

So, I started digging. Turns out, “Hillbilly Elegy” is this guy, J.D. Vance’s, memoir. It’s not just some made-up story. It’s his real life. He talks about his childhood, and man, it sounds rough. Poverty, abuse, his mom’s drug addiction—it’s all in there. This guy grew up in Ohio, but his family’s roots are in Appalachia, which is apparently a whole different world with its own way of life.
I’m not the quickest, but I eventually found that this book was a sensation when it was published. It hit a nerve with a lot of people, I guess. I mean, the guy is now a senator, so you know the book had some impact. There was even a movie made about it in 2020, directed by Ron Howard. I haven’t seen it yet, but it’s on my list.
What I really started doing was looking into J.D. Vance himself. Before he was a senator, this book put him on the map. Then, I found that he was picked by Trump as a possible VP. Suddenly, everyone was talking about him and the book again. It was like a whole new wave of interest.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to lately, it is my experience exploring this whole “Jamie Vance” and “Hillbilly Elegy” world. It’s definitely been eye-opening. I’m still figuring out what I think about it all, but I thought I’d share my little adventure so far.
- Got curious about “Hillbilly Elegy”: Heard it was a bestseller, wanted to know why.
- Read the book (or at least started to): It’s J.D. Vance’s memoir about his tough upbringing.
- Discovered the movie: Directed by Ron Howard, based on the book.
- Looked into J.D. Vance: He’s a senator now, the book made him famous, and then the whole Trump VP thing happened.
- Still forming my opinion: It’s a lot to take in, but it’s been interesting.
Here’s a little breakdown of what I did:
That’s it for now. Maybe I’ll do an update once I’ve watched the movie and thought about it some more. We’ll see.
