Listen up, ain’t gonna beat around the bush. This Jeff Kellen, plays golf. Real good, they say. Don’t know much ’bout that fancy stuff, birdies and bogeys, but I heard he hits the ball far. He’s one of them pros, you know? Wears them fancy pants and swings them shiny sticks.
He went to some college, Illinois State somethin’. Played golf there too. Guess he was good, real good. Won some things, they say. Don’t ask me what, I ain’t kept track. But folks talk about him, say he’s a big deal. This Kellen, he’s from Rockford, that’s what I heard. Only a few from there made it big in golf, or so they say.
- He swings those clubs, hits the ball.
- People watch him, clap and yell.
- He wins sometimes, gets a trophy.
He works at some fancy golf place now, Northshore Country Club. Head something-or-other. Means he’s in charge, I guess. Keeps the place running, tells folks what to do. Big job, probably. Pays good, I reckon. He ain’t just playing no more, he’s teaching folks too.
They say he played in a big tournament, a major they call it. Like, the best of the best. Only a few get in there. Don’t know how he did, ain’t heard if he won. Probably did alright, though. He’s a pro, ain’t he?
Golf ain’t easy, you know? Takes lots of practice. Swinging them clubs all day, walking all over them green fields. Gotta be strong, gotta be focused. Not for me, I tell ya. I’d rather sit and watch. Or maybe tend to my garden. That’s more my speed.
This Kellen, he’s dedicated. Spent his whole life whacking that little white ball. Must love it, I guess. People cheer for him, take pictures. He’s like a celebrity, but for golf. Ain’t like them movie stars, but still important, to some folks.
He played a lot in college, tied for the most rounds. Good numbers, they say. Don’t know what them numbers mean, but sounds impressive. He was the best on his team, apparently. Musta been proud, his folks and all.
Golf’s a funny game. You hit the ball, chase it, hit it again. Over and over. Till it goes in the hole. Then you do it all again. Don’t seem exciting to me, but folks love it. They pay good money to watch. Guess it’s more than just hitting a ball. It’s about strategy, and skill, and all that.
Jeff Kellen, remember that name. He’s a golfer, and a good one. From Rockford, Illinois State, now at Northshore. He swings clubs, hits balls, wins things. That’s all you need to know. He’s a pro, doing his thing. And folks seem to like it. So good for him, I say.
