Okay, so, I gotta share this wild ride I went on, trying to channel my inner Jiri Prochazka. You know, the UFC fighter who’s basically a real-life Wolverine? Yeah, that guy. I’ve always been kinda fascinated by him, not just ’cause he’s a beast in the octagon, but also ’cause of his whole philosophy thing. Dude lives by “The Book of Five Rings” like it’s his personal bible.

Getting Started
First, I grabbed a copy of “The Book of Five Rings.” I mean, if I was gonna do this, I had to go all in, right? I started reading it every day, trying to absorb all that wisdom. It’s not exactly an easy read, but I kinda got hooked. Also I learned Jiri was a football hooligan before he became a fighter. I was never into that kind of stuff, but it’s interesting how he turned his life around.
The Process
- Read “The Book of Five Rings” daily. Seriously, this thing is dense.
- Tried to meditate. Not gonna lie, I’m terrible at it. My mind wanders like crazy. But I kept at it, just a few minutes each day.
- Watched a ton of Jiri’s fights. I mean, a TON. I was trying to pick up on his movements, his aggression, his whole vibe. I’m no professional fighter, but I wanted to see if I could, you know, mimic some of it.
Then, I started incorporating some basic martial arts moves into my workouts. I’m talking basic punches, kicks, that kind of stuff. I even joined a local gym that offers some mixed martial arts classes, and I’ve been going there regularly. But what is really tough is to keep fighting spirit. I tried to be more aggressive in my daily life. I found that I did become more decisive.
I also learned that Jiri doesn’t follow any organized religion. He’s all about finding his own path, which I think is pretty cool. I’m not religious myself, so that resonated with me. I remember reading that his dad died when he was just a kid. Must’ve been tough. It makes you think about life, you know?
And then I stumbled upon some interview where he mentioned being single. Didn’t know that. Seems like he’s pretty focused on his career and his whole samurai thing. I tried to copy his lifestyle, but it was so hard!
The Results
So, did I become a real-life Wolverine? Nah, not even close. But, did I learn something from this whole experiment? Definitely. I realized that discipline is key, whether it’s in martial arts, reading a difficult book, or just trying to be a better person. The training has definitely improved my physical fitness. I’ve gained muscle mass and improved my endurance. I feel more energized and active in my daily life.

I’m still a work in progress, but I’m trying to incorporate some of Jiri’s principles into my own life. It’s about pushing yourself, being disciplined, and always striving to improve. It’s about finding your own way. And hey, who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually be able to meditate without my mind wandering off to think about pizza.
It was a fun, weird, and kinda tiring journey. Would I recommend it? Sure, why not? Just be prepared to read a really old book and maybe punch a few things.
