Man, you won’t believe the day I had messing around with some old basketball stats. I was digging into the history of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, you know, that killer duo from the Oklahoma City Thunder. These guys were something else together on the court.

So, I started by pulling up their game logs from back in the day. I wanted to see how their performance changed over the eight years they played together. It was a real rollercoaster, I gotta tell you. There were seasons where they were just unstoppable, racking up wins like it was nothing. Then there were times when they struggled, faced some tough losses, and you could see the frustration building.
- First, I looked at their individual stats – points, assists, rebounds, all that good stuff. Both of them had some insane scoring streaks. Durant, man, that guy was a scoring machine. And Westbrook, his energy was just off the charts, always hustling, always pushing the pace.
- Then I started comparing their numbers side by side. You could see how they complemented each other. When one was having an off night, the other would step up. It was like they had this unspoken agreement, this chemistry that just worked.
But it wasn’t always smooth sailing. I noticed some patterns, especially in the playoffs. There were games where it felt like they were trying to do too much on their own, not trusting each other enough. I remember watching some of those games live, and even then, you could sense the tension.
I even found this old podcast, “Out of the Mud,” where Zach Randolph, you remember him, he played for the Grizzlies. He talked about how tough it was to go up against Durant and Westbrook in the playoffs back in 2011 and 2013. He said Durant was a real “menace” to deal with. That’s when I realized that the stats only tell part of the story, you know. They had to deal with such tough opponents in their career.
Ups and Downs
Of course, I also looked at their awards and honors. Both of them won MVP awards, got selected for multiple All-NBA teams. It’s crazy to think how much they accomplished individually, even while playing together. They really pushed each other to be better, I think.
The whole thing was a trip down memory lane for me. It reminded me of why I love basketball so much – the drama, the rivalries, the sheer talent on display. Durant and Westbrook, they were a force of nature. Their story is complicated, for sure, but it’s one for the ages.

It is kind of sad how things ended between them, but you know what, that’s life, that’s sports. Nothing lasts forever. But the memories, the highlights, those will always be there. I’ll never forget watching them play. They were special.
