Alright folks, let me tell ya about this little project I tackled – getting Stewie Griffin to dance. Yeah, you heard right. Stewie. Dancing.
It all started with me messing around with some animation software. I’d been watching way too much Family Guy, and Stewie’s got some killer lines, right? So, I figured, why not see if I could make him bust a move? First thing I did was grab a 3D model of Stewie. Found one online, free to use, looked pretty decent.
Next up, the rigging. Now, rigging is a pain. It’s basically putting a skeleton inside the 3D model so you can move it around. Spent a good chunk of time wrestling with that, trying to get the joints to bend right without making Stewie look like he’s made of rubber. There were a lot of “undo” moments, trust me.
Then came the fun part – the animation! I started with something simple, just a little two-step. Keyframing is the name of the game here. Basically, you set poses at certain points in time, and the software fills in the gaps. I wanted Stewie to have a bit of swagger, so I added some hip movement and a subtle head bob.
Now, making a character dance realistically is HARD. I had to watch a bunch of dance videos, see how people actually move. I even got up and tried some of the moves myself, just to get a feel for it. Let me tell ya, I am no dancer. But hey, gotta suffer for your art, right?
After the basic dance was done, I wanted to add some flair. So, I threw in some arm movements, a little spin, and even a tiny moonwalk (because why not?). I was laughing my head off the whole time, watching this little cartoon baby trying to be Michael Jackson.

Finally, it was time to render the animation. Rendering is basically turning the 3D scene into a video. It takes a while, especially with all the details I’d added. Left my computer running overnight to churn it out.
And there you have it! Stewie Griffin, dancing. It’s not perfect, by any means. The animation is a little clunky, and the model could use some work. But hey, it was a fun project, and I learned a lot. Plus, it’s hilarious to watch. Might even try adding some music next time. Who knows, maybe Stewie will be tearing up the dance floor with Psy.
