Trying Out the Billy Palmer
Alright, so I heard about this thing called the ‘billy palmer’. Sounded kinda weird, honestly. Not sure where I picked it up, maybe online somewhere, maybe someone mentioned it. Anyway, decided, what the heck, let’s give it a shot. Seemed simple enough, didn’t need any fancy gear.

First thing I did was just try and understand the basic moves. Looked kinda like a mix of stretching and maybe some balancing? Hard to explain really. You’re supposed to do it first thing in the morning, apparently. So, yesterday morning, dragged myself outta bed a bit earlier than usual.
Here’s what I did, roughly:
- Stood up straight, feet shoulder-width apart. Real basic start.
- Took a deep breath, raised my arms slowly overhead. Felt okay, like a normal stretch.
- Then came the weird part. Had to kinda lean to one side, but also twist my torso slightly, while keeping one leg slightly bent and the other straight. It felt awkward. Super awkward.
- Tried holding that for like, 10 seconds? Almost wobbled over. My balance is not what it used to be, let me tell ya.
- Switched sides. Same awkward feeling. Felt a pull in places I didn’t know I had.
- Did this back and forth maybe five times each side? The instructions I vaguely remembered weren’t super clear on reps.
- Finished off by just standing straight again and shaking my arms and legs out. Felt a bit silly doing it.
Honestly? It wasn’t revolutionary. Didn’t suddenly feel enlightened or ten years younger. Felt mostly… clumsy. Like I was trying to copy some dance move I saw once and failed miserably. My cat just stared at me the whole time, probably wondering what the heck I was doing invading her morning nap spot in the sunbeam.
Maybe you’re supposed to do it for weeks before you notice anything? I dunno. Seems like a lot of fuss for a slightly uncomfortable stretch. Kinda reminded me of this one time I tried following a Bob Ross painting tutorial. Looked easy on TV, right? Mine ended up looking like a muddy mess. Some things just aren’t for everyone, I guess.
Will I do the ‘billy palmer’ again tomorrow? Eh, maybe. Maybe not. Probably just stick to my usual coffee routine. Less chance of pulling something weird or looking like a fool in front of the cat. It wasn’t terrible, just… underwhelming. Just another thing I tried, you know? Tick that box, move on.
