Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole 6A football thing in Texas, right? Man, it’s a rabbit hole! I started out just wanting to see who was top dog, and next thing I know, I’m knee-deep in stats and team histories. Seriously, high school football in Texas is no joke.

First, I hit up a few different spots online that post rankings. Seems like everyone and their mother has their own list. But the one that kept popping up was this Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. Sounds like the real deal, so I figured I’d start there. They release their rankings every week, which is pretty cool. And that’s how I started my work, because I really wanted to figure out what’s going on.
I grabbed their latest rankings, which were for Week 6, dated October 7th, 2024. Yeah, I know, way in the future, but hey, that’s what they had. The first thing I noticed? Duncanville Panthers were at the very top, and apparently undefeated with a 15-0 record. Sheesh, talk about domination! I mean, come on, who could beat them?
So, I started making a list. I wrote down all the top teams from this Dave Campbell’s list and their records. I just wanted to get a feel for who the major players were. And it was pretty interesting to see that they have different records and ranks.
- Duncanville Panthers (15-0) – Top of the heap.
Then I checked out another list, and another. Just to see if there was any pattern. Duncanville was always high up there, no surprise. But there were some other teams that kept showing up too, like Summer Creek. I read somewhere that they just moved up to No. 7 after some big win. I don’t remember all the details, but it was a blowout, like 45-17 or something. Sounds like they’re on fire!
After looking at all these lists, I decided I needed to organize this mess. So I made a spreadsheet. Yep, an actual spreadsheet. I’m not usually a spreadsheet guy, but it felt necessary. I put in all the team names, their records, where they ranked on each list. I even added a column for notes about big wins or interesting facts I found. It became a whole thing.

My Final Thoughts
Anyway, after all this digging, I feel like I have a decent handle on the Texas 6A football scene, at least for now. It’s definitely a dynamic situation, with teams moving up and down all the time. I think I’ll keep an eye on this Dave Campbell’s list and see how things change over the season. Who knows, maybe I’ll even catch a game or two! It’s way more interesting than I thought it would be. High school football in Texas is really something else.
