Okay, so, the other day, I was trying to figure out how to become the “Mets Veteran of the Game.” You know, that thing they do at Mets games where they honor a veteran? Yeah, that.
I started digging around, trying to find info. Honestly, it wasn’t super clear at first. The Mets website didn’t exactly spell it out. But I kept at it, you know, clicking around, reading through stuff. I figured there had to be a way.
Finding the Application
Eventually, I found out that you gotta apply. Makes sense, right? They need to know who you are and your service history. I finally stumbled upon a form, buried somewhere on their site. It was pretty basic, asking for your name, contact info, branch of service, dates of service, and a little bit about your time in the military.
- Name
- Contact Information
- Branch of Service
- Dates of Service
- Service Description
Filling Out the Form
So, I filled out the application. Took me a bit, had to dig up some old info about my service. But I got it all in there, made sure it was all accurate and honest. I even wrote a little about my most memorable experience while serving. Thought it might help my chances, you know?
Submitting and Waiting
After I double-checked everything, I hit submit. Then came the waiting game. It’s not like they get back to you right away. It takes time for them to go through all the applications. They do this for each Mets game, apparently, so I figured there’s probably a lot of vets applying.
The Good News
And guess what? A few weeks later, I got an email! They picked me! I was stoked, man. They told me which game I’d be honored at, gave me all the details about where to go, what time to arrive, all that jazz. It was pretty exciting, I’m not gonna lie.
The Game Day
So, game day came, and I went to Citi Field. They had it all set up. I got to go on the field during the game, they announced my name and service, and the whole crowd cheered. It was a really cool experience, something I’ll never forget. Being recognized like that, in front of all those people, it meant a lot.
So yeah, that’s how I became the Mets Veteran of the Game. It took a bit of effort, finding the application, filling it out, and waiting, but it was totally worth it. If you’re a veteran and a Mets fan, I definitely recommend looking into it. It’s a great way to be honored for your service.
