Well, let me tell you somethin’ about this monkeymoon thing. Sounds kinda funny, don’t it? Monkeymoon. Makes me think of that old song, you know the one. But this ain’t about no song, this is about that big ol’ thing in the sky, shinin’ down on us every night.

Now, some folks, they get all fancy with it. They talk about “phases” and “gravity” and all that highfalutin stuff. Me? I just like lookin’ at it. It’s pretty, ain’t it? Sometimes it’s big and round, sometimes it’s just a little sliver. Like someone took a bite outta it.
This monkeymoon, it’s always up there, watchin’ over us. Even when you can’t see it, it’s there. Like a big ol’ eye in the sky. Keeps an eye on things, you know? Makes sure everything’s alright. That moon been there for years. A long, long time.
I remember when I was a little girl, my daddy, he used to point at the monkeymoon and tell me stories. Silly stories, most of ’em. Said there was a man up there. I used to believe him, too!
Now I teach my grandkids about the moon. Show them the different shapes and tell them how it affects the ocean water. It’s important to know these things, even if you don’t get into all that science stuff. The moon has always been important. For animals and people. It’s part of nature. And nature is everything around us.
- Big and round
- Small sliver
- Sometimes you can see it, sometimes you can not.
Some people like to draw the moon. I see them with their pencils and paper. That’s nice. I like to see the kids drawing. They draw the moon and stars. Sometimes they draw monkeys, too. I guess that’s where the monkeymoon comes in, huh? Makes sense, I suppose. Kids and their imaginations!

Drawing is good. It’s good for you. Keeps your hands busy. Keeps your mind workin’. Even if you ain’t no good at it, it’s still fun. Like them little ones drawing monkeys and the moon. They have a good time. They also have all these new tools now. Phones and computers. They use those to learn about the moon. It’s different these days. I remember when we had to go to the library to learn things.
You can draw a monkey, you can draw the monkeymoon, you can draw anything you want. Just gotta put your mind to it. And it don’t have to be perfect. Just gotta be yours. That’s what counts.
They say that moon up there, it affects things. Makes the water go up and down. Makes people act a little crazy sometimes, too! I don’t know about all that. But I do know it’s somethin’ special. Somethin’ to look at. Somethin’ to think about. This monkeymoon is important for everyone.
I reckon that’s all I got to say about this monkeymoon. It’s a mystery, ain’t it? Just like life. You just gotta keep lookin’ up, keep wonderin’, keep learnin’. That’s all you can do. And maybe draw a picture or two. Of a monkey. Or the moon. Or a monkeymoon!
It does not matter if you are just starting to learn about this stuff or if you have known it for a while. There is always something new to find out about the monkeymoon. So, go ahead and find out what you can. You might like it.

Now, go on and get yourself a good look at that monkeymoon tonight. See what shape it is. See if you can see that man in the moon. And think about all the folks who looked at that same moon, years and years ago. Makes you feel kinda small, don’t it? But in a good way. Like you’re part of somethin’ bigger. It has been there forever, and it will be there for a lot longer. I find that comforting. It’s something you can count on.
- The monkeymoon is always there.
- The monkeymoon is pretty.
- The monkeymoon is important.
And if you got kids, show it to them. Tell ’em about it. Let ’em draw pictures. It’s good for ’em. And it’s good for you, too. To remember what it’s like to be a kid. To look at the monkeymoon with wonder.
It is good for kids and adults to learn about nature. The monkeymoon is part of nature. It is always there. We should learn more about it. We should look at it more. We should draw it more, too. That’s what I think. Maybe draw a monkey, too.
