Man, figuring out how much I spend on gas for my motorcycle has been a real head-scratcher. So, I finally decided to get serious and track it. Here’s how I did it, and it’s way easier than you think.

Start Simple
First, I grabbed a small notebook and a pen. Nothing fancy, just something I could stuffed in my jacket pocket. Every time I filled up, I wrote down three things:
- The date
- The price per gallon
- The total amount I spent
Keep it Consistent
The key here is to be super consistent. I made it a habit to jot down the info right after I filled up. I made sure to do this at the gas pump before I even started my bike again. No forgetting, no “I’ll do it later.”
Track Your Mileage (Optional)
After I did that for the per gallon gas price, I also recorded my odometer reading, the total miles added, and the total gas amount I spent to calculate the cost per mile.
Do the Math (It’s Easy!)
After a few weeks, I have got a decent amount of data. Now for the fun part – seeing how much I’m actually spending! To start, I can easily look back and see the highest and lowest prices I’ve paid per gallon. I just flipped through the notebook and it jumped right out at me.
To track my mileage, I divided the total miles I drove by the total gallons I used. Boom – miles per gallon!

What I Learned
Once I started tracking everything, It became clear, so I’ve figured out, I have to pay more for gas than the last month. I need to change my habits. This whole thing helped me become way more aware of my gas spending. It’s not rocket science, just a little bit of effort, and it made a big difference!
