Okay, so the other day I was hanging some shelves in my new place, and I ran into this whole “stud” situation. I mean, I know what a stud is – it’s the vertical wood beam thingy in the wall that you’re supposed to screw stuff into, right? But then I started wondering, “how long is a stud, anyway?” Like, is there a standard size? Because that would make my life a lot easier.

Digging Around for Answers
So, first, I did what any sane person does: I Googled it. I typed in “how long is a stud” and, boom, a whole bunch of stuff popped up. Turns out, there are some pretty standard sizes.
I learned that most studs are pre-cut to make building walls easier. who would have thought?
Finding and Measuring My Studs
Okay, armed with this new knowledge, I grabbed my stud finder (seriously, best invention ever). I needed to find the suckers in my wall first. I slid the stud finder across the wall until it beeped and lit up, marking the edges with a pencil. Easy peasy!
Then came the moment of truth. I took my measuring tape and measured the distance that had from top to * it’s 92 5/8 * I found out that my wall have different length of * a mess!
Anyway I finally get my shelves done.
