My Time at Oaks on Collins
So, I needed a place to stay in Melbourne for a few days, right in the city. Did a bit of looking around online, trying to find something central but not crazy expensive. Ended up booking a room at Oaks on Collins. Looked decent enough from the pictures, and the location seemed spot on.

Getting there was pretty straightforward. Found the entrance on Collins Street, looked kind of like an office building entrance at first glance, but the signage was clear enough. Walked into the lobby area, wasn’t massive but looked clean. Went up to the reception desk.
The check-in process itself was quick. Handed over my details, the person behind the counter tapped away on their computer for a bit, gave me the key card, pointed me towards the elevators. No fuss, which is always good after travelling.
Getting to the Room
Found my floor easily enough. The hallways were okay, standard hotel stuff. Got to my room door, tapped the card, and went in. First impression? It was compact. Definitely not huge, but seemed to have everything I needed packed in there. It was one of those apartment-style rooms.
- There was a small kitchenette area right as you walked in. Had a microwave, a small fridge, kettle, toaster. Didn’t plan on cooking much, but it was handy for keeping drinks cold and making a coffee in the morning. Found some basic tea and coffee stuff provided.
- The main area had the bed, which looked comfy enough. Plopped my bag down. There was a small desk and chair too, which was useful because I had a bit of work to catch up on.
- Checked the bathroom. Looked clean, standard shower, toilet, sink setup. Towels were there. Nothing fancy, but perfectly functional.
Using the Place

Over the next few days, I pretty much just used the room as a base. Left early most mornings, came back in the evening. The bed turned out to be comfortable, slept pretty well actually. The air conditioning worked fine, which was important.
I did use the kitchenette for breakfast – just toast and coffee, simple stuff. Saved me having to go out first thing. Everything worked okay, no issues with the appliances I used.
Didn’t really explore the other facilities much. Think they had a gym or something, but I was too busy running around the city. The location was the real winner. Being right on Collins Street meant I could walk to a lot of places, or easily grab a tram right outside. Super convenient for getting around.
Checking Out and Final Thoughts
Checkout was just as easy as check-in. Went down to reception, handed back the key card. They asked if everything was alright, I said yes, and that was it. Quick and simple.

Overall, my stay at Oaks on Collins was fine. It did the job. It wasn’t luxurious or anything, but it was clean, practical, and the location was excellent. For someone needing a central, functional place to sleep and maybe make a quick breakfast, it worked out pretty well. No major dramas, just a straightforward place to stay in the city centre.
