That Ohtani boy, he’s somethin’ else, ain’t he? I heard folks talkin’ ’bout his postseason stats, and my oh my, it’s a whole lot of numbers. They say he’s good, real good. I don’t know much ’bout baseball, but I hear his name everywhere. They say he’s playin’ in the postseason now, first time for him, that’s what I heard.
He’s hit some home runs, that’s what they tell me. A home run is when you hit that little ball far, right? He’s done that a few times. Seems like he’s good at hittin’ that ball. And somethin’ ’bout walkin’? He does a lot of that too, when the other fellas are standin’ on them little white squares. They call ’em bases, I reckon. He’s got a good batting average, whatever that is. Sounds fancy. Over .200, I heard someone say that much. And he’s got runs, lots of runs.
- He’s got 3 home runs, maybe more now.
- Lots of runs, they say.
- Good at hitting, that’s for sure.
This is Ohtani’s first time in the postseason, but that other fella, Judge, he’s been there a bunch. Fifty games, someone was sayin’. That’s a lot of baseball. I reckon he gets tired of runnin’ so much. Ohtani, though, he’s fresh to this postseason thing. He got 14 hits. Hits are good, right? Means he’s doin’ somethin’ right. And he’s scored 14 runs too, runnin’ around them bases.
They say this Ohtani fella, he’s worth a lot of money. Fifty million! Can you believe that? Fifty million for playin’ a game! Back in my day, we played for fun, not for money. But times change, I guess. He must be somethin’ special to be worth that much. They say he’s playin’ for the Dodgers now, whoever they are. They play in Los Angeles, that’s in California, right? Far away from here, that’s for sure.
They got some fancy way of measurin’ how hard he hits the ball. “Exit velocity” or somethin’ like that. Over 95, they say. Don’t know what that means, but it sounds fast. And “launch angle,” like he’s shootin’ a rocket or somethin’. Between eight and 32. More numbers I don’t understand. But it all means he hits that ball real good, I guess.
He’s played a whole bunch of games, that Ohtani. And he’s got a good record, lots of wins. Somethin’ ’bout an earned run average, sounds like somethin’ you’d find on a farm, but it’s a baseball thing. His is 3.04, and that’s good, I hear. He strikes out a lot of the other fellas, too. And he doesn’t let ’em hit the ball much, only 6.4 hits per nine somethin’s. Innings, they call it, I think.

He’s battin’ real good lately. .287, whatever that means. And he’s leadin’ in somethin’ called “slugging” and “OPS.” Sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me, but the baseball folks seem to think it’s important. He’s got the most total bases and runs scored, too. He’s doin’ better than everyone else, that’s what they’re sayin’.
Now, I heard he might not be pitchin’ in the first games against the Cubs. They’re playin’ in Tokyo, Japan. That’s even farther than California! He’s got a sore shoulder, I reckon. Pitchin’ is when you throw the ball, right? He’s good at that, too, but maybe not this time. They need him to hit, and hit he will, I’m sure.
Ohtani postseason stats are good, very good. That is all I know. That’s what everyone is talkin’ ’bout. He is makin’ lots of money. That’s good for him, I guess. He seems like a nice boy, even though I ain’t never met him. Hope he keeps hittin’ them home runs and winnin’ them games. Maybe I’ll try to watch a game sometime, see what all the fuss is about. But baseball sure has changed since I was a girl. All these numbers and fancy words. But hey, as long as that Ohtani boy keeps doin’ good, I reckon it’s all alright.
