So, I saw this beat-up old motorbike sitting in a neighbor’s yard the other day, covered in dust and looking like it hadn’t moved in years. I’ve always been a bit of a tinkerer, you know, fixing up old stuff. I got to talking to my neighbor, and it turned out he just wanted it gone. He said if I could get it running, I could have it! Free motorbike? Couldn’t say no to that!

First thing, I pushed that heavy thing into my garage. Took some effort, I tell you. Then, I gave it a good once-over. Flat tires, rusty chain, the whole nine yards. It was pretty clear this was going to be a project.
Getting Started
- Step 1: Cleaned it up. I spent a whole afternoon just scrubbing off the grime and cobwebs. You wouldn’t believe how much dirt came off that thing.
- Step 2: Tackled the tires. Pumped them up, and surprise, surprise, they held air! At least for a little while.
Next up was the engine. I’m no mechanic, but I know the basics. I checked the spark plug – filthy. Cleaned that up. Then I drained the old gas, which looked more like sludge, and put in some fresh fuel.
I tried to kickstart it, and… nothing. Not even a sputter. Okay, deeper dive required. I pulled out the carburetor – that’s the thing that mixes air and fuel, right? – and it was gunked up bad. I spent a good hour carefully cleaning all the tiny jets and passages with some carb cleaner.
The Moment of Truth
After putting the carburetor back together and reconnecting everything, I held my breath and gave the kickstart another go. It sputtered… coughed… and then… ROAR! It actually started! The sound was rough, but it was running! I couldn’t believe it.

I let it idle for a while, just to make sure everything was okay, and then I carefully took it for a spin around the block. It was shaky, and the brakes were a bit dodgy, but it was moving under its own power!
It’s still a work in progress, of course. I need to replace the chain, fix the brakes properly, and probably give the engine a good tune-up. But for now, I’ve got a running motorbike that I got for free! Pretty stoked about that. It’s amazing what a little elbow grease and some patience can do.
