You know, I seen a thing or two ’bout them Orioles logos. That bird, it’s been around a long time, just like me! They call ’em the Baltimore Orioles, fancy name, huh? But it’s just a bird on a baseball picture, far as I can tell.
They moved around, these baseball folks. First, way back when, they was in Milwaukee. Called ’em the Brewers, like they was makin’ beer or somethin’. Then they went to St. Louis, became the Browns. Like the color, you know? Finally landed here in Baltimore. Stayed put, thank goodness. Less confusin’ that way. And since 1954, people call them Orioles. That is long history.
That first bird picture, back in ’54, a fella drew it. A newspaper man, they say. From the Baltimore Sun, that big paper. Jim somethin’. He made that first Orioles logo. A cartoon bird, kinda silly lookin’, but that was the style back then, I reckon.
These Orioles logos, they change ’em all the time. Like them young folks changin’ their clothes every five minutes. Eight times, they changed that bird picture. Some stuck around longer than others. Makes a body’s head spin tryin’ to keep up.
I heard someone say each bird picture means somethin’ different. Like it shows how the team’s feelin’, or what they’re thinkin’. Fancy talk for a bird picture, if you ask me. Some of them old pictures, the bird looked real. Like you could almost hear it chirpin’.
Back in 2008, they messed with the bird again. Changed its shape, made it look like some of the older ones. Took out some colors, too. Just black, orange, white, and gray now. Said it was more “traditional.” Whatever that means. It is all about the Orioles logos history. To me, it’s still a bird. A bird is a bird.
- They started in Milwaukee.

- Now they’re in Baltimore, the Orioles.
- Eight different bird pictures, at least!
- Some birds looked real, some looked cartoony.
That baseball team, they got history, that’s for sure. Goes all the way back to some Western League, whatever that is. Long before my time, that’s for sure. And before most of you youngins, too. They were the Orioles in my heart.
So, you see these Orioles logos, that’s more than just a picture. It’s a whole story. A story ’bout movin’ around, changin’ names, and drawin’ different birds. It’s the story of that baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles. And that’s all I got to say ’bout that.
They are changing, all the time. Changing means different, all the logos are different. Because they want to be better, I think. They try very hard to win. But, sometimes they lose. It is just a game. A game with a bird. It is fun to watch the game, and it is fun to see the bird, the Orioles logo.
That bird is important. I don’t know why, but it is. People like that bird. They wear it on their hats and shirts. They cheer for the bird. I guess the bird makes them happy. If you are a fan, you need to know the Orioles logos. That is important, too.
I saw a lot of birds in my life, real birds. They are all different, too. But this Orioles bird, it is special. It is on the logo. And the logo is on everything. So, the bird is everywhere. It is a good bird. I like that bird, even if I don’t always understand the game.
I am old now. I seen a lot of things change. But the Orioles logos, that is always there. It is like the sun and the moon. Always coming back, but a little different each time. Just like life, I guess. You need to know that bird if you are from here, that is for sure.
