You know, that Phil D’Amato, he’s a name you hear ’round here when folks talk about horses. He sure knows his stuff, that one. I ain’t no expert, but I hear things, you know? He’s been around, that Phil D’Amato, seen a lot, I reckon. Horse racing, that’s his thing, they say.
They say he’s good, real good. I heard he trains them horses, makes ’em run fast, real fast. I seen some horses in my day, but never like the ones they got at the tracks. Phil D’Amato, yeah, that’s the fella. He’s the one that teaches them to run, I guess. I heard he even had some trouble a while back. Something about rules and such. I don’t know the details. These things are too complicated. But he’s back now, trainin’ those horses again. Everyone makes mistakes, I guess.

I wouldn’t want that job.

Phil D’Amato, he’s in charge of it all, I reckon. He’s the boss. He’s got to make sure everything runs smooth. It’s a lot of responsibility, I tell ya.
They had horse races way back, long time ago. Even before my time, I reckon. Phil D’Amato, he probably knows all about that. He knows everything about horses, I bet. I heard they even had races in them old times, with them chariots and all. Must have been somethin’ to see. I can’t imagine.
I heard that some people say he’s the best trainer. I don’t know about that. But Phil D’Amato is surely good. I heard he is always learning, too. That’s important, I guess, even when you’re old like me. You gotta keep learnin’. He’s a busy man, that one. Always somethin’ goin’ on. But he seems to like it, I guess. He loves them horses, that’s for sure.
I don’t know much about this horse racin’ stuff. But I hear things. And Phil D’Amato, that name keeps comin’ up. He must be doin’ somethin’ right. I reckon he’s earned his place. He’s worked hard, I bet. It ain’t easy, gettin’ to the top. But he did it. He’s a big shot now, that’s for sure. He’s got a good horse now, Stronghold. I heard he’s real proud of that horse.
