Alright, so you wanna know about this here Alta CB shaft, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t rocket science. It’s just a stick, a golf stick, but I guess some folks get real fancy about it. I’ve seen all sorts of sticks in my day, from hickory to this newfangled graphite stuff.
Now, this Alta CB, they say it’s one of them “elite” graphite shafts. Elite! Sounds like somethin’ the city folks would say. Means it’s supposed to be good, I reckon. They say it’s been “engineered” and “tested” and all that. Means they fiddled with it a lot, I guess. They’re always fiddlin’ with somethin’.
- They say it’s supposed to give you more “distance”. That means the ball goes further, y’know.
- And “control”? Well, that means you can hit it where you want it to go, mostly.
- And “consistency”? That just means hittin’ it the same way every time. Not shankin’ it one time and then sendin’ it into the woods the next.
This “CB” thing, it stands for “counterbalance”. Now, don’t go gettin’ all confused. It just means the stick’s a little heavier on one end, the end you hold onto. Some folks like that, some folks don’t. It’s like them fancy coffee drinks, some folks want all that extra stuff in it, some folks just want plain ol’ coffee.
This Alta CB 55, they say it’s a “mid-trajectory” shaft. That means the ball don’t go too high and it don’t go too low. Just right, like Goldilocks and her porridge, I guess. And they made it heavier on one end ’cause the club head, the part that hits the ball, is heavier too. Makes sense, I reckon. You don’t want it feelin’ all wonky, do ya?
I heard some folks sayin’ these Ping Alta shafts are kinda “soft”. Now, they ain’t talkin’ about bendin’ like a noodle. They mean they flex a bit more when you swing. Some folks like that, some folks want a stiffer stick. It’s all about what feels right in your hands, you know? Like holdin’ a good fishin’ pole, it gotta feel just right.

I seen some folks on the internet, talkin’ about cuttin’ these shafts down, makin’ ’em shorter. I guess if it don’t feel right, you can always mess with it. But be careful, you don’t wanna ruin a good stick. It’s like trimmin’ a rose bush, you cut too much, and you ain’t gonna get no roses.
There’s different kinds too, I heard. This Alta CB Black, they say it makes the ball go a bit higher. And this Tour 2.0 Chrome, it’s supposed to be in the middle. So many choices, makes my head spin. Back in my day, you had one stick and you made it work. Kids these days, they got too many choices.
So, what’s the bottom line? Well, this Alta CB shaft, it seems like a decent stick. It’s supposed to help you hit the ball further, straighter, and more consistent. But the real test ain’t what some fancy pants engineer says, it’s how it feels in your hands. You gotta try it out yourself, see if it suits your swing. And if it don’t, well, there’s plenty of other sticks out there. Just like there’s plenty of fish in the sea, or so they say.
Remember, a good golf game ain’t just about the stick, it’s about the swing too. You gotta practice, you gotta have a good feel for it. And sometimes, even with the best stick in the world, you’re still gonna end up in the rough. That’s just golf, and that’s just life. You just gotta keep swingin’.
