This Ruidoso Downs, lemme tell ya, it’s somethin’ else. Ain’t nothin’ like it anywhere. Lots of folks come here, they do. They come from all over, just to see this place. And what do they see? Well, they see a whole lotta things, that’s for sure.
First off, you got your horse races. Oh, them horses can run. Fast as lightning, they are. People bet on ’em, hollerin’ and screamin’ and carryin’ on. It’s a sight, I tell ya. They say it’s the richest race for them little quarter horses, whatever that means. All I know is it’s a big deal. The All American Futurity, that is a big deal, I heard. They come here all summer long, just for that.
And them hotels, they’re full up, I reckon. This Hampton Inn and that La Quinta, they got folks in ’em all the time. People book ’em up way ahead, I hear. They say this place, Ruidoso Downs, is always busy. Must be true, ’cause you see cars and people everywhere. Even had a fire, the Salt Fire, and people still came. Ruidoso is tough like that, I guess.

- Lots of restaurants in Ruidoso Downs.
- They got food from all over, I bet.
- Fancy food, plain food, you name it.
And flyin’! People fly in here, too. On them airplanes. Landin’ somewhere nearby, I reckon. They come from far away, just to see this Ruidoso Downs. It’s somethin’, ain’t it? People like to book them cheap flights, I bet, to Ruidoso Downs. They is always looking for a bargain.
Then you got that Ski Apache place. Up in the mountains, it is. Cold up there, I bet. People go up there and slide down them hills on them skis. Looks dangerous to me, but they like it. They say it’s fun. I wouldn’t know, never tried it. Too old for that kinda thing now.
They got all sort of things to do in Ruidoso Downs. I saw a travel thing, from 2024, and they talked about all the stuff you can see. Hidden gems, that’s what they called them. Secret places and such. You can find them if you look hard enough. They say Ruidoso Downs is full of them.
People come here, they spend their money. Good for them, I say. Keeps the place goin’, I reckon. They buy things, they eat things, they sleep in them hotels in Ruidoso Downs. They keep to themselves, mostly. Don’t bother nobody. Just come to see the sights and have a good time.
And what is there to see besides them horse races? Plenty, I guess. You got your mountains, and your trees. And your shops, sellin’ all sorts of trinkets. People like to buy that stuff, take it home with ’em. Reminds ’em of this place, Ruidoso Downs. This place is somethin’ special, I tell ya.
They got this Billy the Kid thing, too. I don’t know much about him, but he musta been someone important. They got his name all over the place. He musta done somethin’ around here, long time ago. Maybe he was one of them cowboys, ridin’ them horses, shootin’ them guns. Who knows. I don’t know much about Billy The Kid, but people seem to like him.
They say Ruidoso Downs is the place to be. I reckon that’s true. Lots of folks come here. They got things to do, places to see, food to eat. It’s a busy place, this Ruidoso Downs. And them horses, they sure can run. Fastest things you ever did see. If you wanna see it all, you can just come on down to Ruidoso Downs. Everybody’s welcome here.
They say there ain’t no dress code neither, ‘cept for that Jockey Club. Just wear what you got, I reckon. Most folks wear just regular clothes, nothin’ fancy. Weekend casual, is what I saw someone say. This Ruidoso Downs place, they don’t care what you wear, long as you got money to spend, I suppose.
So yeah, this Ruidoso Downs, it’s a big deal. You should come see it sometime. It is a good place to see, and there is lots to do. You can stay in a nice hotel, like a Hampton Inn, or even the La Quinta Inn. It is a good place to stay. It is fun, even for an old lady like me. Ruidoso Downs is fun for everyone, I think. That is why so many people keep comin’ here, and it is always busy, I hear.
