Okay, let’s talk about that trip I made, the one from Toulouse down to La Rochelle. It wasn’t anything too crazy, just something I decided to do, and I figured I’d share how it went down.

Getting Started
So, first thing, I knew I wanted to get away from Toulouse for a bit. La Rochelle popped into my head. Seemed like a decent spot, by the sea, totally different vibe from Toulouse. I decided, right, that’s the plan.
I figured driving was the way to go. Gives you freedom, you know? Stop when you want, chuck whatever you need in the back. So, the day before, I spent some time getting the car sorted. Checked the tyres, oil, water – the usual stuff. Didn’t want any surprises on the road. Threw a bag in the back, nothing major, just clothes for a few days and my wash kit. Kept it simple.
Hitting the Road
Early start the next day. Got up, had a quick coffee, and was out the door. Leaving Toulouse was the usual hassle, bit of traffic getting out of the city limits, but nothing too bad. Once I hit the main road, the A62 I think it was, things opened up.
The drive itself? Well, it’s a drive. Lots of motorway initially. Put some music on, just cruised along. Passed Bordeaux later on. The landscape started changing a bit, felt less like the south, flatter maybe? Hard to describe exactly. It was just… different.
- Checked fuel near Bordeaux.
- Grabbed a quick sandwich at a service station. Didn’t hang about.
- Pushed on towards La Rochelle.
The signposts started showing La Rochelle, Rochefort. You get that feeling, you know, nearly there. It took a good few hours, maybe four or five, something like that? Didn’t time it precisely, just drove till I got there.

Arrival in La Rochelle
Getting into La Rochelle itself was pretty smooth. Found the place I was staying without too much drama. Parked the car, which is always a bit of a win in these old towns.
First impressions? Nice. Straight away you get the sea air. Walked down towards the old port later that afternoon. Saw the two towers guarding the entrance. Pretty cool. Lots of boats, people milling around. Felt good to stretch my legs after being stuck in the car.
It felt different from Toulouse, definitely. More open, maybe because of the sea. The buildings looked different too, paler stone. Grabbed something to eat, just found a little place, nothing fancy. Watched the world go by for a bit.
So yeah, that was the trip. Got myself from A to B. Toulouse to La Rochelle. Done. It was a straightforward journey, really. Drive, arrive, unpack. The main thing was just doing it, making the trip happen. Solid drive, nice change of scenery at the end. Worth doing.
