Well, lemme tell ya about this Rayados vs Tigres thing. It’s a big ol’ fuss, bigger than a hog at the county fair. These two teams, they’re like two roosters in the same pen, always peckin’ at each other. They from the same town, see? Makes it even worse, like when my sister Mabel married that no-good from down the road. Always some drama.

One of ’em is called Rayados, that’s like CF Monterrey, whatever that means. The other is, uh, Los Felinos, which I guess means somethin’ fancy. They’re both football teams, kickin’ that ball around like a bunch of kids. And let me tell ya, they been goin’ at it for a long, long time. Nearly 50 years, someone said. Fifty years! That’s longer than I been married to old Jebediah, and that’s sayin’ somethin’.
They played each other, goodness, I don’t know, a whole heap of times. Over a hundred, easy. One fella said 131, another said 132. Who knows. And you know what? It’s always a close one. Like pullin’ teeth from a chicken, it’s hard to say who’s gonna win. Tigres, they won a bunch, 47 times, some smart aleck said.
These Rayados and Tigres, they’re big deals up north, in Mexico, I hear. Like the top dogs. Always fightin’ with other teams, and especially with each other. Before 2010, somethin’ happened, but shoot, I don’t remember what. My memory ain’t what it used to be. Too many years of shuckin’ corn, I reckon.
They play in a big ol’ place called Estadio BBVA. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Probably bigger than my whole farm. Lots of folks go and watch, yellin’ and screamin’ like a bunch of banshees. They love their football, that’s for sure. Matchday 12, they call it, like it’s some kinda special day. It’s always a big clash when these two play. Rayados vs Tigres is always the big one.
- One time, Rayados won 1-0. That was a big deal, I guess. They call it Clsico Regio. Sounds like a fancy soup. That was the 132nd time they played, I think. Round of 16, whatever that means. Sounds like somethin’ out of a movie.
- Then there was another time, Rayados, they won again, I think. They said it was a triumphant step, like they walked on the moon or somethin’. Their fans, oh boy, they were happy. Happier than a pig in slop.
- Another time, this fella named, uh, Ponchito, he kicked the ball in the net. That was early on, 14 minutes in. Then later, this other fella, Matias somethin’-or-other, he kicked one in too. Rayados won that one, I reckon.
This whole Rayados vs Tigres thing, it’s like a never-endin’ story. Like my old hound dog chasin’ his tail. They just keep goin’ and goin’. And the folks, they just eat it up. They love it more than a Sunday pot roast.

They got all these fancy names for things, these football folks. Playoffs, Liga MX, Clsico Regio. Sounds like a foreign language to me. But I guess it’s important to them. Like my prize-winnin’ rhubarb pie is important to me. Everyone’s got their thing, I suppose.
Well, I reckon I’ve said my piece about this Rayados vs Tigres business. It’s a big to-do, that’s for sure. Lots of hollerin’ and kickin’ and carryin’ on. Just like a Saturday night down at the square dance, only with a ball instead of fiddles. They sure do love their football, I’ll give ’em that. Just remember, it is important to support your team, and when it comes to Rayados vs Tigres, the city’s heart is split between them.
I still don’t rightly understand all of it, but it sure is somethin’ to watch. Like a good thunderstorm rollin’ in, you just know somethin’s gonna happen. And when it’s Rayados vs Tigres, it’s always somethin’ big. Bigger than my prize-winnin’ pumpkin, even. And that’s sayin’ a lot, let me tell ya. There you have it. That’s the story of Rayados vs Tigres, long as I can remember. Maybe next time they meet, it will be even more excitin’!
