Okay, so today I decided to get a better handle on rugby sevens positions. I’ve watched a few games, but honestly, I was always a bit lost about who was doing what. So, I figured it was time to actually learn this stuff.

Getting Started
First, I pulled up some basic articles and videos online. Just to get a general overview, you know? I wasn’t trying to become an expert overnight, just wanted to understand the basics. I jotted down some notes, mainly the names of the positions, and tried to visualize them on the field.
Digging Deeper
Then, I started looking at some diagrams. These were super helpful! It’s one thing to read about the positions, but seeing them laid out on a pitch made a big difference. I realized there are basically two groups: forwards and backs. Simple enough, right?
The Forwards
- Prop (x2):These guys are at front.
- Hooker: They’re in the middle of the forwards.
The Backs
- Scrum-half: Connects the forwards to the backs.
- Fly-half: Like a quarterback.
- Center: Positioned in the middle of the backs.
- Wing(x2): On the sides,very fast.
Putting It All Together
After I felt like I had a decent grasp of the individual positions, I watched another game. This time, instead of just enjoying the action, I tried to identify each player and what they were doing. It was definitely easier than before! I could actually follow the flow of the game better and understand some of the strategies.
I’m still no expert, but I feel like I’ve made some good progress today. It’s cool to finally have a better understanding of what’s going on in a rugby sevens match. I’ll probably keep watching games and reading up on the positions to solidify my knowledge. Maybe next time I watch a game, I’ll impress my friends with my newfound rugby wisdom!
