Okay, so I got this kinda weird task the other day. I needed a big list of Russian surnames, but only the ones starting with “K”. Sounds simple, right? Well, it turned out to be a bit more involved than I thought. Let me tell you how I went about it.

My Scramble for Surnames
First, I hit up Google, just typing in “Russian surnames starting with K”. I got some results, but they were all mixed up, not a clean list. It was gonna take forever to pick through them.
Then I remembered those genealogy websites. You know, the ones where people trace their family trees? I figured they might have huge databases of names. I tried a couple, but most of them wanted me to sign up, pay money, you name it. No thanks.
I needed something quick and free. So, I went back to Google and tried some different searches, like “list of Russian surnames K” and “common Russian last names K”. That helped a little, I started to find a few more reliable-looking lists.
Building My List
I opened up a simple text document and started copying and pasting names. I made sure to only grab the ones starting with “K”, obviously. It was slow going, but I started to build a decent list.
After a while, I had a pretty good collection, but I wanted to be sure I wasn’t missing any obvious ones. I went back to those initial search results and double-checked them, adding any “K” names I had missed. It’s very tiring!

- Kovalev
- Kuznetsov
- Kazakov
- Kalinin
- …and many more I am too lazy to list down here.
The Final Polish
Finally, I looked over my list one last time. I organized it alphabetically, just to make it look neater. I also removed any duplicates, because there were a few.
It wasn’t the most exciting task, but I got it done. I now have a solid list of Russian surnames starting with “K”. Who knew there were so many steps to something that seemed so straightforward at first? It’s a lesson learned, I guess: even simple things can take some digging!
