Okay, so, I gotta tell you about this character, Sally O’Malley. This whole thing started because I was just messing around on the internet, right? And I stumbled upon this old “Saturday Night Live” skit. I vaguely remembered Molly Shannon from way back, but this Sally O’Malley character, totally new to me.

So I start watching this skit. And man, this lady, Sally, she’s a riot. She’s got this crazy red jumpsuit on, hair all poofed up, and she’s, like, fifty years old, just full of energy. She’s all “I like to kick, stretch, and KICK! I’m fifty!” And she’s doing these wild kicks and stretches, pulling her pants up super high. I was cracking up.
I had to see more. I started digging, you know? Found out Molly Shannon played her back in the late 90s, from 1995 to 2001, and Sally became a big deal. Apparently Molly Shannon was a hostess and food demo girl before SNL. Turns out lots of people loved this character.
I watched a bunch more of these skits. One’s with the Jonas Brothers, where she’s their choreographer, all “Okay!” It’s just too much, I was dying.
Then, you know, I got curious about Molly Shannon. Turns out, she’s had a pretty tough life. When she was young, she lost her mom, sister, and cousin in a car crash. That’s heavy stuff. She documents the time developing her craft at NYU. But she turned it into this successful career, being in all these movies, she did a film called Promising Young Woman, that got nominated at the Oscars! It’s pretty inspiring, you know? Now she’s 76 years old, I learned she is a trailblazing legend as a camera woman. She made her career working hard.
But yeah, this Sally O’Malley thing. It just shows how you can find the funniest stuff when you’re not even looking. Now she’s one of my favorite comedy characters. I keep telling people, you gotta watch these skits. They’re gold. Trust me, you won’t regret it, this lady will crack you up for sure.
