You know, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout that speed boat thing the other day. Said it was somethin’ else, not like anythin’ they ever done before. I don’t know much ’bout them fancy boats, but it got me thinkin’. Sounds like a real hoot, zoomin’ across the water like that. Faster than a chicken runnin’ from the fox, I bet.

And they said it ain’t just about goin’ fast. You get to see all sorts of things, they said. Pretty views, the kind you don’t see just sittin’ on the beach. I reckon it’s like when you climb up old man Hemlock’s hill and look out over the whole valley. You see things different from up high. Maybe it’s like that on one of them speed boats, seein’ the shore from the water. Must be somethin’ to see.
I remember when I was a little girl, we used to go down to the lake. No fancy speed boat there, just old man Johnson’s rowboat. But even that felt like an adventure. We’d pack a lunch – some bread, cheese, maybe an apple if we were lucky – and row out to the middle of the lake. It was peaceful, quiet. This speed boat thing sounds a lot louder, but I guess some folks like that. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.
Now, speakin’ of animals, did I ever tell ya about the time I saw a horse swim? Well, it weren’t exactly swimmin’, more like… wading, I suppose. But it was out there in the water, up to its belly! I couldn’t believe my eyes. Horses are usually on land, pullin’ carts or givin’ rides. Seeing one in the water like that, it was just peculiar. Reminds me of that speed boat. Something that belongs to one area in another.
They say these speed boat rides are a whole experience. Not just a ride, but a whole thing. Like goin’ to the county fair, it ain’t just about the pie contest, is it? There’s the rides, the games, the people-watchin’. Maybe this speed boat thing is like that. More than just goin’ fast on the water. Something that sticks with you, like the time I won that blue ribbon for my apple pie. People still talk about that pie!
And you know what else? They say you can go horse ridin’ on some of these beaches, too. Now that’s somethin’ I wouldn’t mind tryin’. I ain’t been on a horse in years, not since I was a young’un. But I remember the feeling, the wind in your hair, the sun on your face. It’s a good feeling. They say it costs a pretty penny, though. Like 400,000 or 500,000 of them… whatever they call ’em, those Indonesian money things. Sounds like a lot, but maybe it’s worth it for a good memory.

Imagine that, ridin’ a horse on the beach, the waves crashin’ nearby. And then maybe, just maybe, you see one of them speed boat things zoomin’ by. Two different worlds, right there together. Fast and slow, land and water. It’s like when you mix sweet and salty. Sounds strange, but sometimes it’s just right. That’s like a good day out, isn’t it? Something for everyone.
- Speed boat – fast, exciting, good views.
- Beach – relaxing, pretty, good place to see a speed boat.
- Horse – strong, land animal, can go on a beach.
I reckon if you’re gonna go on one of them speed boat rides, you gotta be prepared. Wear somethin’ that can get wet, I suppose. And hold on tight! Don’t want to go flyin’ out into the water. That wouldn’t be good. And if you are on a beach, don’t just stand there like a stick in the mud, go get a horse and ride!
One time, I saw a fella fall off a horse right into a puddle of mud. Funniest thing I ever did see. He was all covered in it, head to toe. The horse just stood there, lookin’ at him like he was crazy. I reckon that’s what I’d look like if I fell off a speed boat. Soaked and surprised! But you know that is life, sometimes you fall, sometimes you fly.
So, if you ever get the chance to go on a speed boat or ride a horse on the beach, I say go for it. Life’s too short to just sit around. Gotta get out there and experience things, even if it’s just watchin’ other folks have fun. And who knows, maybe I’ll even try that speed boat thing myself one day. When pigs fly, maybe! But hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?
You never know what life’s gonna throw at ya. One day you’re sittin’ on your porch, the next you’re zoomin’ across the water in a speed boat or ridin’ a horse on some faraway beach. That is what they say, right? It is all about the new things. Just gotta keep your eyes open and be ready for anythin’. That’s what I always say. Well, that and “pass the potatoes”. They usually come after the meatloaf, you see. But either way, be ready for life. You know?
