Okay, so I tried to figure out this whole Saquon Barkley 40 time thing, and let me tell you, it was a journey. You see all these videos online of the guy, he’s a beast, right? New York Giants running back, famous for those tree-trunk legs. I wanted to see if I could even get close to his squat game, just for fun, you know?
First, I did some digging. Found out Barkley can supposedly squat around 585 pounds. 585! That’s like, three of me. I also found that his 40-yard dash time is crazy fast. Anyways, I’m no NFL player, but I do hit the gym. Usually just some cardio and the regular weights stuff. But this got me curious. I wanted to use the Brzycki formula that estimates a one-rep max based on how much you can lift for multiple reps. Maybe, I could find a weight that I can squat for multiple reps.
So, I started small. Like, really small. Just the bar at first, getting the form right. Then I added some weight, nothing crazy, just enough to feel it. I did sets of 5 reps, then 3, then just 1, each time adding a bit more weight. It’s tough, man. My legs were burning, my back was aching, and I was sweating like crazy. I kept going, pushing myself a little more each time. It is fun, challenging, and I want to see how far I could go with my body.
I managed to get a decent one-rep max, not even close to Barkley’s, obviously, but something I was proud of. It got me thinking, though. These pro athletes, they’re on another level. It’s not just about the weight, it’s the speed, the explosiveness, everything. I have got more motivation after this, and I feel like I could achieve more.
My Progress
- Week 1: Started with just the bar (45 lbs), focused on form. Did 5 sets of 5 reps.
- Week 2: Added 20 lbs, total 65 lbs. Managed 4 sets of 5 reps. Feeling it in my quads!
- Week 3: Up to 95 lbs. Did 3 sets of 5 reps, 2 sets of 3 reps. Tough!
- Week 4: Okay, 135 lbs now. This is getting real. 3 sets of 3 reps, then a shaky 1 rep max attempt at 155 lbs!
- Week 5: I did the formula thingy. Based on my 135 for 3, it says my one-rep max should be around 150. Not bad for an old guy like me. I successfully lifted 155 lbs for one rep today.
This whole experiment showed me how much work these guys put in. It’s inspiring, really. I’m gonna keep at it, see if I can improve my own numbers. Maybe I won’t be squatting 585 pounds anytime soon, but I can definitely get stronger. And hey, maybe I’ll try that 40-yard dash next. Just kidding… unless?
Anyways, that’s my little adventure in the world of squats and Barkley. Hope you enjoyed the ride. Remember, I’m just a regular dude trying to stay in shape. This was just a fun little experiment for me to have a taste of professional players.
