Alright, let’s talk about this “St. Louis City Connect” thing, whatever that is. Sounds fancy, but I’ll tell ya, it’s just a bunch of clothes them baseball fellas wear, you know, the Cardinals.

The Look of the Thing
Now, they got these new getups. Red shirts, they call ’em jerseys, and white pants. Not too different from what they always wear, but these got some extra stuff on ’em. They still got them birds on a stick, you know, the ones they always have. But this time, they wrote somethin’ different on the front.
They put “The Lou” on there. I guess that’s what the young folks call St. Louis these days. Heard it from my grandson, he’s always listenin’ to that rapper fella, Nelly, somethin’ like that. Apparently, he’s a big deal ’round here and he likes sayin’ “The Lou.” So, they put it on the shirt.
- Red jersey
- White pants
- Birds on a stick logo (they call it “iconic,” whatever that means)
- “The Lou” written on the front
What’s it All About?
Now, they say these clothes are supposed to tell a story about St. Louis. I don’t know what story a shirt can tell, but that’s what they say. They say it’s about the city’s history. I reckon St. Louis has a long history, been around longer than me, that’s for sure. But this shirt, I don’t know. Seems like just a shirt to me.

They also say they wanted to keep it like the old shirts, the ones with the birds on the stick. People like them birds, I guess. They’ve been there forever. So, they kept ’em. But they added that “The Lou” thing, to make it new, I suppose. Gotta keep up with the times, even if you’re an old bird… or a team with birds on their shirt, somethin’ like that.
What People Are Sayin’
I heard some folks talkin’ about it down at the store. Some like it, some don’t. Some say they shoulda put the birds on the Arch, you know, that big metal thing downtown. That woulda been somethin’, I reckon. But they didn’t. They just kept it simple. Red shirt, white pants, birds, and “The Lou.” That’s it.
My Two Cents
Well, I don’t know much about fashion or baseball or whatever. But I do know a thing or two about St. Louis. It’s a good town, good people. If these clothes make folks happy, then that’s good enough for me. And if they help the Cardinals win some games, well, that’s even better. But to me, it’s just a shirt and pants. They could wear potato sacks for all I care, as long as they play good ball.

More on the “City Connect” Idea
Apparently, this “City Connect” thing is somethin’ all the baseball teams are doin’. They get new clothes every few years, and they try to make ’em special, you know, somethin’ that represents the city where they play. So, it ain’t just the Cardinals. Every team’s got their own “City Connect” clothes. I guess it’s good for business, sellin’ all them new shirts and hats. And it gives folks somethin’ to talk about, I reckon.
About Them Birds
Those birds, they’re a big deal, let me tell ya. Been on them shirts forever. They call ’em “redbirds” and they’re sittin’ on a bat, like they’re ready to swing. It’s a symbol, they say. A symbol of St. Louis and the Cardinals. And they’re stitched on real nice, chain-stitched, they call it. Fancy stuff. But I still say, it’s just a bird on a stick, but folks seem to like it, so who am I to judge?
Nelly’s Involvement

That Nelly fella, he’s from St. Louis, you know. Made it big with his music. And he likes to talk about St. Louis, calls it “The Lou.” So, the Cardinals, they got him to help ’em show off these new clothes. He’s famous, I guess, so that gets people’s attention. Smart thinkin’ on their part, I reckon. Get a famous fella to wear the shirt, and everybody else will want one too.
Keeping It Traditional, Sort Of
Now, some folks were expectin’ somethin’ real different, real wild. But the Cardinals, they didn’t go too crazy. They kept it kinda traditional, like the old shirts. Just added a little somethin’ new with that “The Lou.” Some folks like that, some don’t. But that’s how it always is, can’t please everyone. But at least they didn’t mess with the birds, folks woulda been real mad if they messed with them birds.
Final Thoughts
So, there ya have it. The St. Louis City Connect. It’s a red shirt, white pants, birds on a stick, and “The Lou” written on the front. It’s supposed to tell a story about St. Louis, but I ain’t sure what story that is. But it’s new, and it’s somethin’ to talk about. And if it helps the Cardinals win, well then, I’m all for it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about clothes and baseball has made me hungry.
