Alright, let’s talk about this St. Louis City Connect thing, ya hear? I ain’t no fancy writer, but I’ll tell ya what I know.
So, the Cardinals, them baseball fellas, they got themselves some new duds. New uniforms, they call ’em. And not just any ol’ uniforms, mind you. These are special. They call ’em “City Connect.” Sounds fancy, huh?
Now, I ain’t sure what all the fuss is about, but they say these uniforms are supposed to be all about St. Louis. You know, the city? Where we live. They wanna show off the city, I guess. Make it look all… modern. Like them young folks like it.
- First off, they got this red color. Now, the Cardinals, they usually wear white with a little red, or sometimes blue. But these new ones? All red, almost. Like a fire engine, but not so shiny. They say it’s the second time ever they’re wearin’ red like that. Guess it’s a big deal.
- Then there’s this… picture thing… on the sleeve. They say it’s the Arch. You know, that big ol’ metal thing downtown? Looks like a horseshoe to me, but what do I know? And there’s this flower thingy too. A lily, they call it. Fancy stuff, I tell ya.
They had this fella, Nelly, he’s a singer or somethin’, helpin’ them show off the uniforms. He’s from St. Louis too, they say. Guess he’s a big shot around here. I ain’t never heard of him, but the youngsters seem to like him.
This City Connect thing, it ain’t just the Cardinals, you see. It’s all them baseball teams. They all gettin’ these new uniforms, tryin’ to be all hip and cool. They started doin’ this a few years back, in 2021, I think. Nike, the shoe people, they’re in on it too. Gotta sell them shoes, I reckon.
These new uniforms, they ain’t like the regular ones. They got different colors, different writin’, different pictures. They’re tryin’ to tell a story, they say. A story about the city. About St. Louis. They want people to think about St. Louis when they see them uniforms. About the history and all that.
This year, a whole bunch of teams gettin’ new City Connect uniforms. The Guardians, the Tigers, the Dodgers, and a bunch of others. Even them Blue Jays up in Canada. Everybody’s doin’ it, seems like.
And this red color for the Cardinals? It’s a big change. Like I said, they mostly wear white. But this red… it’s bold. It’s… well, it’s red! You can’t miss it. They say it’s supposed to be like the old days, when they wore red sometimes. But I don’t remember that. Maybe it was before my time. Or maybe I just forgot. My memory ain’t what it used to be, ya know.
They also got this… bird thing. The Cardinals, they always got a bird on their shirts. But this one’s different. They say it’s like a superhero bird. A strong bird. A brave bird. Reminds me of them comic books my grandson used to read. He always liked them superheroes.
So, that’s the lowdown on these St. Louis City Connect uniforms, as best as I can tell ya. They’re red, they got the Arch and a flower, and they’re supposed to be all about St. Louis. Whether they’re any good or not, well, that’s up to you to decide. Me? I just hope them Cardinals play good, no matter what they’re wearin’. That’s what really matters, ain’t it?
