Alright, let’s talk about catching that elusive Red Snapper in Stardew Valley. This one took me a little while to figure out, so I’m gonna break down what worked for me.

First off, I knew I needed to fish during the summer or fall. That part was easy enough to find out. But the big kicker is that you can ONLY catch them when it’s raining. No rain, no snapper, plain and simple.
So, I basically spent a good chunk of my summer and fall glued to the TV, watching the weather report every single day. The moment I saw even a hint of rain, I grabbed my rod and tackle.
Now, location, location, location! You can catch Red Snapper at the beach. That’s the only spot. I tried the river near my farm a few times just to see what would happen (spoiler: nothing), but the beach is where it’s at.
The other thing I learned is that your fishing skill matters a lot. I was struggling at first with a low skill. After a lot of practice and leveling up, it got much easier. Use the training rod to get your skills up and tackle shop. That helps a bunch!
Once I was at the beach, with my upgraded rod and tackle, during the rain, I just kept casting and reeling. It definitely took some patience. The Red Snapper doesn’t bite every time. It took me a few rainy days before I finally landed one.

When you finally hook one, be ready for a fight! These fish are feisty. Keep your eye on the bar and try to keep the fish inside of it. Use bait and tackle, that can help a lot!
Finally after all the tries, I caught my Red Snapper. It was totally worth it. I needed it for a recipe, and I’m a completionist, so I had to catch one. Plus, it feels pretty good to finally figure something out after struggling with it for a while.
In short:
- Fish at the beach.
- Summer or fall.
- Has to be raining.
- Level up your fishing skill.
- Be patient!
Hope that helps you snag your own Red Snapper! Good luck!
