Alright, let’s talk about them St. Louis Cardinals and their new getup, the City Connect thingamajig. Heard folks callin’ it the “city connect,” so that’s what I’ll call it too.
Now, I ain’t no fancy baseball expert, ya hear? I just watch the games on the TV sometimes, when my chores are done and the chickens are fed. But even I can see these uniforms are somethin’ different. They’re red, real red, like a ripe tomato or my prize-winning rooster’s comb. I mean, red red.
- First off, the shirt, or jersey as them city folks call it, it’s red. Like I said, real red. Not a speck of that bird blue they usually wear. Just red, all over.
- Then there’s the hat. Guess what? Yep, it’s red too. Got some kind of bird on it, looks like the Cardinals bird, but all red.
- And the pants? Well, them’s white. Probably a good thing, too much red and you’d look like a fire hydrant runnin’ around the bases.
Now, I been watchin’ the Cardinals for a good long while, since I was a young’un, back when radios were the big thing. And I ain’t never seen ’em wear so much red. Usually, it’s that blue and white, sometimes a little red trim. But this? This is a whole lotta red. Makes you wonder what them fellas over at the Cardinals office were thinkin’. Maybe they had a sale on red dye, who knows?
Folks are sayin’ this “City Connect” thing is supposed to be somethin’ special, somethin’ that shows off the city. St. Louis, that’s where they play, right? Well, I ain’t been to St. Louis in ages, not since my sister’s youngest got hitched. But I don’t remember the whole city bein’ red. Maybe things changed. Maybe they painted all the houses red while I wasn’t lookin’. Wouldn’t surprise me none, city folks do strange things sometimes.
Anyways, they wore these red getups for a game the other day. I saw it on the TV. They looked…different. Kinda like a whole team of tomatoes runnin’ around the field. Didn’t seem to help ’em win, though. Lost to them… uh… what was the team’s name? Them fellas with the funny hats. Doesn’t matter, I guess. A loss is a loss, no matter what color you’re wearin’.
Some folks like these new uniforms, some folks don’t. That’s how it always is, ain’t it? You can’t please everybody. Me? I’m on the fence. I like the red, it’s a nice, bright color. But it’s just… so much red. Makes my eyes water a little. Maybe I’m just gettin’ old, I don’t know.
But hey, they’re just clothes, right? It ain’t the clothes that make the ballplayer, it’s the heart and the hustle. You can wear a potato sack out there, long as you can hit the ball and catch the ball and run the bases fast. That’s what I always say.
Still, it’s somethin’ to talk about, ain’t it? Gets folks chatterin’. And that’s good for the team, I reckon. Keeps ’em in the news, keeps ’em in people’s minds. So maybe them Cardinals fellas knew what they were doin’ after all, with all that red. Maybe it’s a smart move, a way to sell more hats and shirts, get more folks watchin’ the games. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but that’s what I think.
