Alright, listen up, y’all. We’re gonna talk about them fellas who run with the football, the leading NFL rushers in 2016, you know? Not that fancy passin’ stuff, but good ol’ ground and pound.

So, the top dog that year, the one who ran the most, was this young fella named Ezekiel Elliott. He played for Dallas, them Cowboys. Man, that boy could run! He was just 21 years old, barely a man, and he was tearin’ up the league. They said he had somethin’ like 1,631 yards. That’s a whole lotta runnin’, let me tell ya. Like runnin’ from one end of the farm to the other, ‘cept a whole lot more.
Now, second place, that was LeGarrette Blount. He was older, 30, playin’ for New England, the Patriots. He wasn’t as flashy as that young Elliott fella, but he was strong, like a bull. Got him somethin’ like 1,161 yards. Not too shabby, eh? He was a big fella, hard to bring down, like tryin’ to stop a tractor with your bare hands.
Third on the list was David Johnson, playin’ for Arizona. He was 25, in his prime, I guess you’d say. Fast, too. He got 1,239 yards. These young fellas, they run like the wind. Makes my old bones ache just thinkin’ about it.
And then there was DeMarco Murray, playin’ for Tennessee. He was 28, another one gettin’ up there in age, for football anyway. He had 1,287 yards. See, it ain’t always about bein’ the youngest, sometimes it’s about knowin’ how to run, knowin’ where to go.
- Ezekiel Elliott (Dallas) – Around 1,631 yards, the young whippersnapper.
- LeGarrette Blount (New England) – About 1,161 yards, the strong fella.
- David Johnson (Arizona) – Around 1,239 yards, the fast one.
- DeMarco Murray (Tennessee) – About 1,287 yards, the experienced one.
Now, you might be askin’, “How do they know all this yard stuff?” Well, they got folks who keep track of every little inch them fellas run. It’s important, I guess, for the stats and all. But me? I just like watchin’ ’em run. It’s excitin’, seein’ who’s gonna break free, who’s gonna get tackled, who’s gonna make it to the end zone.

Them boys train hard, real hard. Liftin’ weights, runnin’ drills, watchin’ films. It’s a tough job, no doubt about it. But they get paid good money, more money than most folks ’round here will ever see. And they get famous, too. Faces on TV, names in the paper. It’s a different world, that’s for sure.
Anyways, 2016 was a good year for runnin’ backs. Lots of talented fellas out there, poundin’ the ground. And Ezekiel Elliott, he was the best of ’em. Youngest in the top, that’s something. He sure made a name for himself that year.
I remember hearin’ folks talkin’ ’bout him on the radio, seein’ his highlights on the news. He was somethin’ special. And the others too, they all had their own style, their own way of runnin’. Blount, with his power. Johnson, with his speed. Murray, with his smarts. It takes all kinds, I reckon.
So, that’s the story of the leading NFL rushers in 2016, as best as I can tell it. Just a bunch of fellas runnin’ with a football, tryin’ to get more yards than the other guy. Simple as that, really. But it’s excitin’, and it’s somethin’ folks love to watch. And those fellas, well, they sure gave us a show that year.
