So, I finally got myself over to Springdale Golf Course Birmingham. Been meaning to check it out for ages, you know, hear all sorts of chatter about local courses.

Booked a tee time online, pretty straightforward stuff. Didn’t have to jump through too many hoops, which is always a good start in my book. Packed my clubs, threw on some vaguely acceptable golf attire, and off I went.
Finding the place was easy enough. The sat nav did its job. First impressions? The car park was decently sized. Rolled up, found a spot. The clubhouse looked, well, like a golf clubhouse. Not the Ritz, but clean and functional, seemed like.
Went inside to check in. The person at the desk was pleasant, got me sorted quickly. Pointed me towards the first tee and the practice green. I gave the practice green a miss – always too eager to just get going, you know how it is. My putting usually shows it too.
The Course Experience
Alright, onto the main event. Stepped onto the first tee. The layout, from what I could see, looked like it had some interesting holes. Not too many blind shots, which I appreciate. You could mostly see what you were getting into.
The condition? It was… okay. Looked like it gets a fair bit of play. Some fairways were a bit worn in patches, but nothing terrible. The greens were probably the best part. They rolled pretty true, maybe a touch on the slow side for my personal taste, but consistent. That’s the main thing, consistency.

I had a decent enough round, for me anyway. Didn’t set the world on fire, but didn’t embarrass myself too badly either. Managed to keep most of my shots on the fairway, which is a win. There were a couple of tricky par 4s that really made you think about club selection. And the par 3s had some bite to them, especially with a bit of a breeze picking up.
Pace of play was alright. We were a two-ball, got stuck behind a four-ball for a bit, but they waved us through after a couple of holes. Can’t complain about that. Always appreciate good golf etiquette.
Here are a couple of quick thoughts on the course itself:
- Some really nice scenic views on the back nine.
- Bunkers could use a bit more sand in places, just my two cents.
- Water hazards were well-placed, made you think.
After the round, headed into the clubhouse for the mandatory pint and a bite. The food was standard clubhouse fare. Hit the spot. Sat there for a bit, watching the other golfers come in. Good atmosphere, relaxed.
So, Springdale Golf Course Birmingham. What’s the final word? It’s a solid local course. If you’re looking for a no-frills, decent round of golf without paying top dollar, it does the job. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and I respect that. Good for a casual knockabout with mates. Would I play there again? Yeah, I probably would. It was a decent day out on the links.
