Man, you won’t believe what I just got into. So, I’ve been messing around with my putting grip lately, trying to find that magic touch on the greens, you know? And who do you look up to when you’re talking putting? Tiger Woods, right? I mean, the guy’s a legend.

I went down this rabbit hole, watching old tournament footage, trying to see exactly how he holds his putter. It’s kind of wild, but it seems like he’s always used this one particular grip his whole career. They call it the “Ping PP58” or something. I’d seen a lot of pros switching to these new-fangled, thick grips like that “SuperStroke” brand and figured it’s the secret sauce. You’ve probably noticed them too, right? Big, colorful things. Those SuperStroke things are all the rage, with their fancy designs and whatnot. But there’s Tiger, sticking with his trusty old grip. It’s like, why hasn’t he changed it up?
First, I tried to understand what is so good about those SuperStroke grips. I saw a lot of people saying it’s all about the quality and design. But it got me thinking, does it really make that big of a difference?
So, naturally, I got curious. I mean, if it’s good enough for Tiger, it’s gotta be worth a look. I started hunting around, trying to find one of these PP58 grips myself. They’re not exactly easy to find. It’s not like they’re just sitting on the shelf next to those flashy SuperStrokes. I heard some folks talk about getting all kinds of golf stuff on eBay, but I wasn’t really into that.
Eventually, I managed to track one down, no thanks to eBay, haha. Got it on my putter, and went out to the practice green. It felt weird at first, not gonna lie. It’s a pretty standard, no-frills kind of grip. Nothing fancy like those SuperStroke ones. But, man, there’s something about it. I started rolling putts, and it just felt… right. It’s hard to explain. Maybe it’s the connection to Tiger, maybe it’s the simplicity, but I felt like I had more control. I spent hours out there, just putting.
The more I used it, the more I liked it. It’s not a miracle worker or anything, but I definitely felt more consistent. My speed control was better, and I was starting more putts on line. Placebo effect? Maybe. But I don’t care. I’m sticking with it.

It’s just a cool reminder that sometimes, the old-school way is the best way. You don’t always need the latest and greatest gear to improve your game. Sometimes, you just need to find what works for you, even if it’s something that’s been around forever, like Tiger’s trusty Ping grip.
So, yeah, that’s my little putting grip adventure. Who knows, maybe I’ll try one of those SuperStrokes again someday. But for now, I’m happy channeling my inner Tiger.
