Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Tyler Baze. Heard ’bout him on the TV, they was jabberin’ on and on. Seems he’s a jockey, you know, one of them fellas that rides horses real fast.

Born way back in 1982, October 19th to be exact. That makes him…let’s see… younger than my grandkid, that’s for sure. He’s from Seattle, Washington, way up there in the corner of the country. Never been there myself. Too much rain, they say.
Now, this Tyler fella, he comes from a ridin’ family. His ma and pa, both jockeys. His uncle too, I reckon. Guess it’s in the blood, like bakin’ pies is in mine. Though, I ain’t never seen a horse race in my life, cept maybe on that there TV. Too busy workin’ the farm, you know.

They call him a “Champion jockey,” whatever that means. Guess he’s real good at it. Wins a lot, I suppose. Makes you wonder how them little fellas can control such big, strong horses. Must be somethin’ special, a gift maybe. Reminds me of that time my ol’ Bessie, that stubborn cow, wouldn’t budge. Had to sweet talk her for an hour before she’d move. Horses probably ain’t much different, just faster and… well, horsier.
Heard tell he had a rough patch, this Tyler Baze. Somethin’ ’bout bein’ real sick, almost dyin’, they said. “Death’s doorstep,” they called it. Scary stuff, that is. Glad he pulled through. Don’t know the details, and frankly, I don’t much care for gossip. But it’s good to see a young fella get back on his feet, or in his case, back on a horse.
Tyler Baze’s wins, they talk about ’em on the TV. Just the other day, they said he won three races out of eleven. Not bad, I reckon. Even I know that’s pretty good, even though I don’t know nothin’ ’bout horse racin’. Three out of eleven… that’s like plantin’ eleven seeds and gettin’ three big ol’ pumpkins, right? Makes sense to me.

They keep track of everything these fellas do, every race, every win, every loss. They call it a “race record”. Sounds fancy. Got it all written down, like a ledger, I guess. Probably got more numbers than my grocery bill after feedin’ the whole family for a month. And they got “future entries” too. That means they know where he’s gonna race next, I figure. Makes it easy for folks to bet, I guess, not that I’d know anythin’ ‘bout that. Gamblin’s a sin, you know, or so they say in church.
Now, they got this thing called a “profile” on him. That’s just a fancy word for tellin’ ya all about him. Like his birthday, where he’s from, and how many races he’s won. Everything a body needs to know, and probably a whole lot more. I ain’t got no profile, that’s for sure. Just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two.
Seems like this Tyler Baze jockey is a pretty big deal in the horse racin’ world. They talk about him all the time, and he wins a lot of races. Good for him, I say. Hope he stays healthy and keeps ridin’ those horses. It’s a hard life, but I reckon somebody’s gotta do it. And if he’s good at it, and it keeps him outta trouble, then that’s all that matters.
So, that’s about all I know ’bout Tyler Baze. Not much, I admit, but enough to tell ya he’s a horse rider, a good one at that, and he come from a ridin’ family. And that’s all you need to know, really. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens.
