Alright, so listen up, y’all. They’re talkin’ ’bout some football game, a big one, over in Ireland. Yeah, you heard that right, Ireland! Not down here in Georgia, not even up north, but way across the big water. They’re callin’ it the “Aer Lingus College Football Classic,” sounds fancy, don’t it? But it’s just a football game, plain and simple.

Georgia Tech, that’s our boys, they’re gonna be playin’. And who they playin’ against? Florida State. Them Seminoles. Now, I ain’t no expert on football, but I know a rivalry when I see one. And these two, they been goin’ at it for a good long while.
They’re sayin’ this game is the first big college football game of the whole season, the 2024 season that is. Startin’ things off with a bang, I guess. And it’s happenin’ on August 24th, that’s what they told me. Folks over in Dublin, that’s in Ireland, they’ll be watchin’ it at somethin’ called the Aviva Stadium. Big place, probably. Game starts at noon our time, but over there it’ll be five in the evenin’. Makes sense, I reckon, with the time difference and all.
- Game: Georgia Tech vs. Florida State
- Where: Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland
- When: August 24th, 2024
- Time: Noon ET (5 PM in Dublin)
Now, why they playin’ all the way over in Ireland? That’s what got me scratchin’ my head. Seems like a long way to go for a football game. But they say it’s a big deal, this “Aer Lingus College Football Classic.” Been plannin’ it for a while, seems like. Heard tell that the Georgia Tech coach, Brent Key, and the athletics fella, J Batt, they even went over there to Ireland already. Checkin’ things out, I suppose.
They moved this game from Bobby Dodd Stadium, that’s where Georgia Tech usually plays, all the way to Ireland. Must’ve been a whole lotta work to do that. Like puttin’ together a big ol’ puzzle, they say. And it ain’t just any game, it’s a conference game. ACC, that’s the conference. Means somethin’, I guess. Winner gets bragging rights, and maybe a better shot at, what do they call it? The playoffs? Somethin’ like that.
This David Shanahan fella, he’s from Ireland, County Kerry they say. They’re makin’ a big deal about him. Guess he’s got somethin’ to do with the game, maybe he played for one of the teams, or knows somebody who did. Folks love a good story, and he seems to be part of it.

They’re gonna be showin’ the game on ESPN, and you can watch it on that streamy thing too, on demand they call it. So, if you’re interested, you can watch it from the comfort of your own home. No need to fly all the way to Ireland, unless you really want to. Me? I’ll stick to watchin’ it on the TV. Less travel, more comfortable.
So there you have it. Georgia Tech playin’ Florida State in Ireland. Big game, start of the season. Hope our boys win, but either way, it’s gonna be somethin’ to see. Football in Ireland, who woulda thunk it? The world’s a changin’, that’s for sure.
And one more thing, this game, it’s a big deal for them colleges. Gets their names out there, makes ’em look good. Recruiting, they call it. Gettin’ the young fellas to come play for their team. It’s all a big business, you know. More than just a game, I reckon.
Anyway, I’m done talkin’ ’bout this football game now. Y’all can watch it if you want, or not. Ain’t gonna change my life none. But it’s somethin’ different, that’s for sure. And sometimes, different is good.
