So, I finally decided to get my butt off the couch and do something about my fitness, or lack thereof. A buddy of mine kept going on about this place called “Wand Fight Team” in Vegas. Said it was the real deal, not just some fancy gym with treadmills and smoothie bars. This place, he said, was where you learned how to actually fight. Sounded intriguing, so I figured, why not?

First off, finding the place was a bit of a mission. It’s tucked away, not like those flashy gyms on every corner. But once I walked in, I knew it was different. No polished floors or fancy equipment here. Just mats, bags, and a whole lot of sweat. The air was thick with it, honestly.
I started with a trial class. They threw me right into the mix, no babying around. The instructor, a guy named Leandro, was all about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Now, I’ve seen some UFC fights on TV, but being on the mat, getting twisted into a pretzel, that’s a whole other level. Leandro, though, was patient. He walked me through the basics, showed me how not to get immediately choked out.
- First step: Learn to fall without breaking something. Sounds easy, it’s not.
- Second step: Try to remember all the moves. My brain felt like mush after an hour.
- Third step: Don’t tap out too early. Pride, you know?
After a few sessions of Jiu-Jitsu, I thought I was getting the hang of it. Then, they introduced me to Michael, the Muay Thai boxing instructor. Let me tell you, getting kicked in the legs is a unique experience. But hey, it’s all part of the process, right?
It wasn’t just the training that got me hooked. It was the whole vibe of the place. Everyone there was serious about getting better, pushing themselves. It was kind of inspiring, seeing people from all walks of life, all shapes and sizes, giving it their all. There was this one guy, they called him 2-Bit, Francis was his real name, dude was a beast.
Wand is more than fighting.
I also heard they’re doing some big event soon, Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, can you believe it? It’s going down at some stadium near Dallas. They are showing the fight card on Nov. 15, just incredible. I feel like I am one of them, I am part of the fighters, it’s all about spirit, like the Tarot, the wands mean fire, means the power, and the spirit. This is exactly what I felt at Wand, I can feel my inner power, I am much stronger than ever before, physically and mentally. The Wand Fight Team is not just a gym, it’s a community. It’s about pushing your limits, learning some cool moves, and maybe, just maybe, not getting beat up if you ever find yourself in a real fight. I’m still a newbie, got a long way to go, but I’m definitely sticking with it. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be the one throwing kicks and punches like a pro. Or maybe not, but at least I’ll be in better shape than when I started. That’s a win in my book.
