Alright, let me tell you about something I tried the other day on Facebook. I put up this post, nothing major, just sharing a little update. But honestly, I wasn’t really feeling up for a back-and-forth in the comments section. Sometimes you just want to say something and not have a whole debate kick off underneath, you know? So I wondered, could I actually stop people from commenting altogether?

I decided to poke around and see. I was using my phone at the time, which is where I usually check Facebook anyway.
So, I opened up the app, went to my profile page, and scrolled down to find the post I’d just made. Once I found it, I started looking for those usual settings options. You know, they always hide them somewhere.
Found them! It was the little three dots icon, usually tucked away in the top right corner of the post itself. I gave that a tap.
A menu popped up. Standard stuff, like ‘Edit post’, ‘Save post’, ‘Delete’. I read through the list, looking for anything about comments.
And there it was. Something like ‘Who can comment on your post?‘. Sounded exactly like what I needed. So I tapped on that option.

It then showed me a few choices. I remember seeing things like ‘Public’, ‘Friends’, and then one that caught my eye: ‘Profiles and Pages you mention‘. Now, I hadn’t tagged or mentioned anyone in my post. So I figured, if only people I mention can comment, and I mentioned no one, then… nobody can comment. Seemed logical.
I selected that ‘Profiles and Pages you mention‘ option and closed the menu.
Just to be sure, I checked the post again right after. And yeah, the usual box where you type a comment wasn’t there anymore. It basically just showed the post and the likes, but no space to add new comments. It worked!
I haven’t double-checked if it looks exactly the same on a computer browser, but on the app, it definitely did the trick. It stopped new comments from coming in.
It’s actually pretty useful. Sometimes you just want peace and quiet on a particular post. Nice to know Facebook gives you that little bit of control when you need it.
