Okay, so I wanted to learn the Purdue fight song. You know, be a bit more connected to the school spirit and all that. I figured, why not? It’s a fun little project.

Getting Started
>
First things first, I needed the actual words. I mean, I’ve heard the song a million times at games and events, but could I actually sing it word-for-word? Nope.
So I hit up the internet. A simple search, really. Typed in “purdue fight song words,” and boom, tons of results popped up. The official Purdue site had them, some alumni pages, even some random sports blogs. I grabbed the lyrics from what looked like the most reliable source – the university’s own website, figured that was the safest bet.
Memorization Time

Now came the slightly harder part: actually learning the thing. I printed out the lyrics, because, I don’t know, I’m old-school like that. Plus, it’s easier to scribble notes and highlight stuff on paper.

I started by just reading through the lyrics a few times. No music, just getting a feel for the words, the rhythm, and how it all flowed together. I realized there were a few phrases I’d definitely been mumbling incorrectly all these years. Whoops!
- I broke the song down into smaller chunks.
- Then, I would read and repeat each chunk.
- Next,I find the song on the internet, and follow the lyrics that I print before.
- Finally, I can sing the whole song!
The Finished Product
>
It took a few days of on-and-off practice, mostly just singing it in the shower or while I was driving. But hey, I can now proudly say I know the Purdue fight song! It’s not perfect, I’m sure I still mess up a word or two when I get excited, but it’s a big improvement. Now I can actually participate during games instead of just humming along. Go Boilermakers!
