Alright, let me tell you about hitting what I called my personal ‘club 2k’. Wasn’t really an official club, just a target I set for myself earlier this year. The goal? Cycle 2000 kilometers before the year was out.
Setting the stage
So, beginning of the year, I looked at my old bike sitting there. Thought to myself, gotta do something more than just the occasional weekend jaunt. 2000km sounded like a good, solid number. Big enough to be a challenge, you know? Not crazy, but definitely needed commitment.
Getting Started
First thing, I dusted off the bike. Pumped the tires, oiled the chain. Basic stuff. Didn’t buy anything fancy right away. Downloaded a simple tracking app on my phone. That was key, actually. Seeing the distance add up, even slowly at first, was motivating.
Started small. Just riding around the neighborhood after work. Maybe 10km here, 15km there. It felt good just to be moving.

The Grind
Okay, after the initial buzz, reality hit. Some days it rained. Some days I was just tired after work. It got tougher to just head out. This is where the ‘plan’ kinda firmed up.
- Weekend rides became crucial. I started blocking out Saturday or Sunday mornings for longer rides. Pushed for 30km, then 40km, even managed a couple of 50km+ rides. Those really ate into the target number.
- Consistency over speed. Wasn’t trying to break any speed records. Just aimed to get out 3-4 times a week, even if some rides were short.
- Tracking was everything. Seriously, checking that app became a habit. Seeing ‘1250km done, 750km to go’ kept me honest.
Had a flat tire once miles from home. That wasn’t fun. Had to walk it back. Learned to carry a patch kit and pump after that. Small lessons along the way.
Hitting the Mark
Summer months were great, logged a lot of kilometers then. As autumn rolled in, I saw the 2000km mark getting closer. Started calculating, figuring out how many more rides I needed. It became a bit of a game.
The day I actually hit 2000km? It was just a regular Tuesday ride after work. The app ticked over. No fireworks, no crowds. Just me on my bike.
But man, it felt good. Like, really good. Just a personal goal I set and actually followed through on. Didn’t need a medal or anything. Just knowing I’d put in the effort and done it, ride by ride. That was the reward. Simple as that.
Looking Back
So yeah, that was my journey into ‘club 2k’. Just involved getting on the bike consistently. Wasn’t about fancy gear or joining some elite group. Just me, the bike, and the road. Definitely gonna set a new target for next year.
