Okay, here’s my take on sharing my experience with the 2012 NFL draft quarterbacks, blog-style:
Alright, so I was digging through some old NFL stuff the other day, and I got totally sucked into thinking about the 2012 quarterback draft class. Man, what a mixed bag that was!
I remember leading up to the draft, everyone was hyping up Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III like they were the next big things. Luck was supposed to be the can’t-miss, polished prospect, and RGIII was the electric playmaker with all the swagger. I remember thinking, “Finally, some exciting QBs coming into the league!”
First up, the Colts grabbed Luck. No surprise there, right? He was the consensus number one pick. I remember watching his early games and being pretty impressed. Dude had ice in his veins, made all the throws. For a while there, it looked like the Colts had found their guy for the next decade. Shame about the injuries, though. Really derailed what could have been a legendary career.
Then the Redskins traded a king’s ransom to get RGIII. That was wild! Everyone was buzzing about that trade. RGIII’s rookie season was insane! He was throwing bombs, running all over the field. That read-option stuff was so new and exciting at the time. I remember thinking, “This dude is gonna change the game!” But then… the injuries. That knee injury against the Ravens… ugh, still hurts to watch. He was never really the same after that.
But here’s where it gets interesting, I started digging past those top two guys.

Ryan Tannehill went to the Dolphins. He was kind of a “meh” pick at the time, if I’m being honest. Solid, but never really a star. I think the Dolphins were always hoping he’d be more than he was. He’s had a decent career overall, bounced around a bit. I was always on the fence about him. Never truly sold me on the idea he was “the guy”.
Russell Wilson. Now there’s a story! Seattle snagged him in the third round. I remember thinking, “Whoa, a short QB? Interesting.” Then he comes in and wins the starting job right away. The rest is history. Super Bowl win, multiple Pro Bowls… He proved everyone wrong. That’s why I love the draft, you never truly know who’s going to shine.
- Luck: What could have been.
- RGIII: Fleeting brilliance, tragic injuries.
- Tannehill: A solid career, but nothing spectacular.
- Wilson: The steal of the draft, no doubt.
It really makes you think about how unpredictable the draft can be. You can scout these guys for months, analyze every throw, but you never really know how they’ll pan out in the NFL. It’s all about the right situation, the right coaching, and a whole lot of luck (no pun intended!).
So yeah, that’s my little trip down memory lane with the 2012 quarterback class. Definitely a draft I’ll be thinking about for a while.
