Okay, so, I’ve been digging into sports in Chad, Africa. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.

First off, I started by just trying to get a basic idea of what sports people are into over there. I mean, you hear about different places, but what’s the actual deal on the ground, right?
So, I dug around. Turns out, football is huge. Like, massive. It’s the big one everyone’s talking about. But it’s not just football. There’s basketball, which a lot of folks in the cities are playing. And then, get this, they’ve got athletics, boxing, and martial arts, which I thought was pretty cool.
I kept going, and I found out they have this thing called fishing, mostly around Lake Chad. That’s a big deal there, apparently. Then there’s the national stadium, Stade Nacional, in the capital, N’Djamena. That place sounds like the heart of it all, where all the big games go down.
Football Frenzy
The more I looked, the more it was clear that football is king in Chad. They’ve got players who’ve even gone on to play in France, which is pretty major. There’s this one guy, Nambatingue Tokomon, they call him Toko, who played for some big-shot French teams.
Judo’s on the Rise
But it’s not all about football. Judo is getting big, too. I read that in 2017, the new president of their National Olympic Committee was the president of the Judo Federation. That tells you something, right? Judo’s making moves.

Hoops Action
Basketball’s got a solid following, especially in the urban areas. Their national team’s been stepping up their game, too. I guess they’re getting more competitive on the international scene, which is cool to see.
Rugby’s a Thing, Too
- And, believe it or not, rugby.
- It’s not huge, but it’s growing.
- They have a national team and everything.
Chad’s Olympic Story
Now, the Olympics. Chad’s been sending athletes to the Summer Games since way back—1964 to 1972, and then from ’84 to 2016. They haven’t snagged a medal yet, but they’re out there. No Winter Olympics for them, though.
So, that’s the gist of what I’ve uncovered about sports in Chad. It’s a mixed bag, really, but football’s definitely the star of the show. It’s been a fun little journey, learning all this. Makes you realize how sports can be such a big part of a country’s vibe.
